Our City Solutions Sector is seeking a junior/mid-level Sustainability Planner to join our team in the New York office. As a Sustainability Planner, you'll help shape the future of sustainable transportation through innovative planning solutions, from emission reduction planning and scenario modeling to decarbonization strategies and transportation electrification initiatives. Working at the intersection of sustainability, resiliency and mobility, you'll tackle projects that enhance climate resilience, promote active transportation, and create more livable communities across the region
This position will report to the New York Sustainability Lead and will require at least 2 years of experience in sustainable transportation planning.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
This role offers opportunities to analyze complex situations and navigate ambiguous challenges while developing informed decision-making skills at the forefront of sustainable transportation. As a critical member of our growing sustainability practice, you'll help develop and evaluate emission reduction strategies, conduct cost-benefit analyses, and create policy recommendations to advance sustainability initiatives. You'll contribute to long-range transportation planning, focusing on emission reduction objectives, scenario modeling, and technology feasibility assessments.
Key responsibilities include analyzing greenhouse gas and criteria pollutant emissions, researching industry trends, and developing recommendations for clean transportation solutions - from public transit and active mobility to zero-emission vehicles and clean freight initiatives. You'll help shape the future of sustainable transportation by analyzing technology adoption pathways, alternative fuel strategies, and innovative demand management approaches, while creating clear, actionable solutions from complex data. Working collaboratively with peers and project managers, you'll need excellent communication skills and adaptability.
Ideal candidates will be solutions-focused, with the ability to contribute significantly to conceptual development, problem solving, and report writing. You'll play a vital role in developing and delivering reports and communication materials, including case studies, webinars, and presentations for various stakeholders. Success in this position requires the ability to build strong relationships across teams, contribute meaningfully to client discussions, and translate technical analysis into compelling recommendations that advance project goals.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (INCLUDING EDUCATION and/or JOB EXPERIENCE):
• Master’s degree in Transportation, Urban planning, Environmental studies, Energy, Public Policy, or another related Master’s or PhD program.
• At least 2+ years’ work experience in Sustainable Transportation, outside of university.
• Foundational knowledge in the following transportation planning concepts:
• Transportation VMT reduction strategies and decarbonization.
• Transportation GHG Analysis and Forecasting
• EV Transition Planning
• Experience in using one or more of the following GIS Mapping software (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online)
• Experience in using one or more of the Adobe Creative Suite applications (Illustrator and InDesign preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required
• Proficiency with statistical and analytical tools such as Microsoft Excel
• Ability to present ideas, projects, and solutions in a polished and professional manner
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively
• Ability to work independently under minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
Additional Information
TYLin is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range for this position. $75,000 - $112,600 annually.
