Duties and Responsibilities

Sustainability Manager - This position works with the Director of the Office of Sustainability to advance a campus-wide culture of sustainability and social justice for Loyola University Chicago. Responsibilities include serving as a point of contact for sustainability at Loyola's Water Tower and Health Sciences Campuses, overseeing outreach and engagement, advising students and student organizations, and managing student workers or interns.

Approximately 60% of the role involves direct work and supervision, while the remaining 40% supports faculty and student research, sustainability efforts, event coordination, partnerships, and systematic advancement of sustainability goals.

The candidate should be committed to student integration, professional in approach, and supportive of academic efforts like 'Campus as a Living Laboratory' and 'Sustainability Across the Curriculum'. Public speaking and outreach are essential.

Additional

Duties
• Internal Consultant: Develop relationships to advance sustainability in alignment with Loyola’s Strategic Plan.
• Transportation: Promote reduction of single occupancy vehicles, lead Bicycle Friendly University certification.
• Waste Reduction: Oversee recycling, composting, and waste tracking; advise on contracts.
• Food Sustainability: Engage vendors and facilities to meet sustainability goals.
• Sustainability Tracking: Co-lead AASHE STARS submission and manage greenhouse gas inventories.
• Student Engagement & Supervision: Collaborate with student departments, oversee interns, and develop sustainability programs.
• External Engagement & Communications: Public talks, communication materials, and building partnerships.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required;
Master's preferred. 3-5 years of related experience. Certifications in renewable energy, waste management, or sustainability skills are preferred, including LEED, WELL, True, etc.
Skills
• Proficiency in MS Office, Google Suite, and Share Point
• Experience with graphics and social media tools
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and mentor students from diverse backgrounds
