Job Description

Boots is seeking a Sustainability Manager in Nottingham, UK, to lead their sustainability initiatives. The role involves developing and implementing sustainability strategies, conducting assessments, managing budgets, and fostering partnerships for positive environmental and social impact. Candidates should have a strong background in sustainability principles, leadership skills, and the ability to inspire change across the organization. This position is focused on enhancing Boots' sustainability performance in the retail sector.

You'll play a crucial role and be responsible for spearheading and putting into action strategies and projects that promote environmental stewardship, social responsibility and economic equality within Boots and its value chain. This role requires an experienced individual with a profound understanding of sustainability principles, outstanding leadership capabilities and the capacity to instigate transformative change across the entire organisation.

Key Responsibilities:
• Champion and build on a comprehensive sustainability strategy aligned with Boots mission, values and objectives.
• Work in partnership with all internal departments to identify sustainability opportunities and integrate sustainable practices into all aspects of the organisation’s operations.
• Conduct sustainability assessments, setting measurable goals and tracking progress to ensure sustainability objectives are met, including external reporting on performance.
• Lead and manage external assurance of Double Materiality Process.
• Drive sustainability innovation by researching and implementing new technologies, practices and strategies that enhance Boots sustainability performance.
• Stay up to date with the latest sustainability trends, best practices and regulations and recommend actions to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
• Lead efforts to obtain, maintain and build on relevant ESG certifications and accreditations.
• Foster partnerships with our suppliers, industry and the broader community that drive positive social and environmental impacts.
• Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to develop and implement sustainability-focused messaging and initiatives to educate and engage internal and external stakeholders.
• Communicate our sustainability efforts to all stakeholders, including employees, suppliers customers and the broader community, and represent Boots at events and conferences.
• Manage sustainability-related budgets, including cost analysis and forecasting to ensure initiatives are financially viable and drive positive change.

We are looking for someone with a true passion for sustainability who is a strong, persistent influencer, with excellent sustainability knowledge across all issues relevant to Health and Beauty or the Retail industry.

What you’ll need to have:
• Proven track record of developing and implementing sustainability strategies, achieving measurable impact.
• Excellent understanding of sustainability principles, environmental stewardship and corporate responsibility.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels, with the ability to inspire and motivate others to embrace sustainability and adopt sustainable practices.
• Analytical mindset with the ability to collect, analyse and interpret data to make informed decisions and recommendations, including significant familiarity with scientific research.
• Knowledge of sustainability reporting frameworks and standards, sustainability certifications and accreditations.
• Understanding of ESG regulations and compliance requirements.
• Knowledge of relevant industry sectors and their sustainability challenges, possibly possessing some experience of implementing sustainability within manufacturing businesses.
