Job Description

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival seeks a Sustainability Field Lead for a seasonal, full-time role from April 21 to May 9, 2025. The position involves overseeing recycling operations, managing a team of volunteers, and ensuring efficient waste management. Key skills include bilingual communication, team coordination, and problem-solving. The role requires working outdoors in various weather conditions and the ability to lift over 50 lbs.
$21 per hour
TIME FRAME: This is a short term, seasonal position.

April 21 - May 9, 2025 (FULL TIME)

POSITION SUMMARY: As a Sustainability Field Lead, you will play a key role in overseeing and coordinating volunteers responsible for MOOPing (Matter Out of Place) and roaming within the infield. Working closely with volunteers, the Rewards Tent Manager, Tent Captains, Haulers, Hauler Assistants, and a Bilingual Manager, you will ensure the efficiency of the recycling operation and the seamless coordination of roaming and sorting volunteers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Zone Oversight:
• Oversee and manage infield recycling operations.
• Ensure effective coordination of recycling processes within your designated zone.
Volunteer Management:
• Supervise a team of 12 roaming volunteers within your zone.
• Manage rotation schedules between roaming and sorting duties.
• Work with Rewards Tent Captains to ensure full volunteer coverage and smooth shift transitions.
Collaborative Coordination:
• Work closely with the Bilingual Manager to communicate needs and instructions for the 12 roamers in your zone.
• Maintain clear communication channels to ensure seamless recycling operations.
Bin Station Management:
• Oversee bin stations in your designated zone, ensuring they remain orderly and do not overflow.
• Coordinate with Haulers and Hauler Assistants to maintain cleanliness and timely waste removal.
Hauling Coordination:
• Collaborate with Haulers and Hauler Assistants to ensure full bags are transported to public sorting stations or designated drop zones.
Efficiency & Optimization:
• Identify opportunities for process improvements within your zone.
• Implement adjustments to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in recycling operations.
Problem Resolution:
• Address challenges promptly, collaborating with the Bilingual Manager to resolve language-related concerns.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Fluency in both Spanish and English is preferred.
• Experience in team coordination or management.
• Excellent communication and translation skills.
• Strong multitasking and problem-solving abilities.
• Familiarity with sustainability practices (preferred).
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment.
• Comfortable working long shifts on your feet in all weather conditions.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Using the Absentee Request Form, it is the responsibility of each employee and their supervisor to accurately report their absenteeism to the Festival Finance Office.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive issues.
• Give any document, computer program, design, or other intellectual property created for the Jazz Festival (and, therefore, belonging to the Jazz Festival) to the Festival through your supervisor or department head at the end of each production year, or upon request.
• Attend and complete any required training.
• Complete all required Feedback Forms and Final Reports.
• Must attend and complete any required training.
