Job Description
The Ohio State University is seeking a Sustainability Education and Learning Committee (SELC) Academic Co-Chair and Subcommittee Lead on Graduate and Professional Education. This role involves strategic planning and collaboration across disciplines to enhance sustainability education. Responsibilities include assessing existing programs, developing new initiatives, and leading a subcommittee focused on graduate education in sustainability. A PhD is required, along with experience in curriculum development and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The Sustainability Education and Learning Committee (SELC), overseen by the Office of Academic Affairs, provides a platform for faculty and academic units to develop a comprehensive and coordinated approach to interdisciplinary sustainability education for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
As a leader for SELC, this position provides strategic planning and leadership to develop and implement next steps and initiatives from the sustainability education visioning process. The subcommittee leads will work across disciplines and academic units and at the university level under the guidance of Randy Smith, Vice Provost of Academic Affairs, and in collaboration with other SELC faculty leaders and sustainability education staff.
The SELC Academic Co-Chair will work with faculty program leaders from academic units to develop and pursue strategies for implementing the priority recommendations of SELC. The Co-Chair will also assess interdisciplinary graduate and professional education and training in sustainability at Ohio State, including existing programs and the potential for new programs.
The SELC Subcommittee Lead on Graduate and Professional Education works closely with the SI Faculty Director and the SI Director of Education and Learning in developing and implementing FY25 priority activities, including regular communication with the larger SELC group. This position will also develop and implement the proposal for MS in Sustainable Energy Program. The subcommittee lead will also develop a timeline and specific strategies and goals within the subcommittee’s focus area for the next 12-18 months. There is also an expectation for attendance to regular meetings with the larger SELC group.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
PhD or equivalent required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with curriculum development and approval processes; expertise in sustainability education and in program administration; experience with interdisciplinary faculty collaboration; expertise in program design and development; in-depth knowledge of the connection between sustainability and workforce development
