Job Description
Henderson Engineers is seeking a Sustainability Consultant to provide expert consulting services in the Retail Sector. Responsibilities include developing sustainability measures, collaborating with design and construction teams, analyzing data, and ensuring alignment with client sustainability goals. The role requires a minimum of 3 years of consulting experience, knowledge of LEED certification, and strong communication skills. A degree in architecture or environmental sciences is preferred.
About the position
The Sustainability Consultant at Henderson Engineers plays a crucial role in providing expert sustainability consulting services within the Retail Sector. This position is responsible for leading the development and application of sustainability measures, acting as the primary point of contact for clients, and collaborating closely with design and construction partners to influence project specifications and achieve client sustainability initiatives.
Responsibilities
• Research and understand client and project specific sustainability goals and recommend sustainable design options that support those goals to the client/team.

• Calculate, analyze and/or model data and make recommendations for sustainable solutions.
,
• Develop sustainability recommendations and reports for clients at various stages of a project or across a portfolio.
,
• Research and write sustainability specifications, design standards and healthy materials performance requirements in close collaboration with design teams.
,
• Support the implementation, development and tracking of sustainability standards, initiatives, and data.
,
• Conduct research and analysis on complex sustainability topics ranging from carbon, energy, water, circular economy, regenerative design, health, biophilic design, materials, community, and equity.

• Understand potential risks to sustainability and ensure sustainability measures are appropriately cascaded across design disciplines and stakeholders.

• Identify relevant metrics, such as energy use or costs, carbon, materials, water, health, and associated sustainability costs such as carbon offset costs or renewable energy credits and ensure they align with projects and/or client specifications.

• Manage data and document collection from various project stakeholders specific to sustainability measures.
,
• Ensure required construction and/or contract documentation is obtained.
,
• Ensure Quality Control documents align with any project requirements and/or certifications and coordinate the transfer of that information to the reviewing body.

• Capture a schedule on construction drawings utilizing the Owner Project Requirements or Basis of Design and other design values and transfer into required certification templates.

• Translate data into a format that is accepted by the rating and certification system.

• Provide multiple scenarios using potential data that might achieve different levels of sustainability.

• Serve in an advisory role and provide feedback on options and decisions to limit risk exposure.
Requirements
• Minimum 3 years of consulting experience in administering LEED certification services and providing sustainability consulting required.

• Working knowledge of materials, concepts, technologies, sustainability-related design guidelines and calculations, building codes, ability to read and interpret design drawings and specifications.

• Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in this job description.

• Strategic thinker with the ability to translate and communicate design recommendations.
Nice-to-haves
• Bachelor's degree in architecture, building or environmental engineering or environmental sciences preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
