Job Description
The Sustainability Consultant at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center will develop and implement sustainability programs focused on recycling, waste reduction, and carbon neutrality. Responsibilities include setting sustainability goals, engaging the community, evaluating feasibility of initiatives, and representing WMC at conferences. A bachelor's degree and at least six years of relevant experience are required. This position is based in Columbus, OH and is not remote.
About the position
The Sustainability Consultant at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (WMC) plays a pivotal role in the development, coordination, and implementation of sustainability programs, standards, and policies. This position operates with a significant degree of discretion and independence, focusing primarily on advancing the institutional Resource Stewardship Sustainability goals of the WMC. Key areas of focus include recycling and waste reduction, carbon neutrality, and the procurement of environmentally preferable products. The consultant is tasked with creating and managing programs that not only meet these sustainability goals but also engage the WMC community in these initiatives. In this role, the Sustainability Consultant will leverage in-depth knowledge of operational functions, industry trends, and peer institution practices to develop innovative ideas that enhance WMC's sustainability efforts. This includes evaluating opportunities for technical feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and community acceptance. Regular communication with various WMC departments, the Ohio Hospital Association, and other relevant entities is essential to establish and promote sustainability policies that maximize both environmental and financial performance. The consultant will also work to position WMC as a leader in sustainability on both national and international stages, publicizing its efforts within and beyond the Ohio State community. The consultant will be responsible for setting annual sustainability goals, establishing baselines, and creating benchmarking reports to document progress. Participation in WMC Sustainability Council and Green Team meetings is expected, along with monitoring the institution's sustainability performance. Identifying opportunities for grant funding, rebates, or other savings programs is also a critical aspect of this role. Additionally, the consultant will represent WMC at local, regional, and national conferences and collaborate with faculty to integrate sustainability initiatives into the curriculum and research activities.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, management, or science.

• Minimum of six years of experience implementing environmental, energy, or sustainability programs.

• Leadership experience in environmental initiatives and resource management.
,
• Significant experience with water, waste, and other sustainability aspects in a large organization.
Nice-to-haves
• Master's degree in a related field.
