Job Description

The Sustainability & Decarbonization Specialist at Join in New York, NY, will support the COO in reducing carbon emissions and enhancing sustainability practices. Responsibilities include managing carbon emissions data, developing decarbonization strategies, and collaborating with teams in the US and France. The role also involves stakeholder engagement, education initiatives, and tracking ESG trends. A graduate degree and proficiency in French are preferred, along with 3+ years of relevant experience.
The Team:

The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for strategizing, managing, and leading the Logistics, Legal, Real Estate, Store Planning & Construction, Information Systems and Sales & Upcycling functions for Hermès in the United States.

The Opportunity:

The main function of the Sustainability & Decarbonization Specialist is to assist the COO in advancing organizational efforts to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and implement sustainable practices across all the company’s locations and departments. The position involves technical analysis, strategy development, and collaboration across departments (both in France and US) to achieve sustainability goals.

This role offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully toward combating climate change while driving organizational success through sustainable innovation in close collaboration with Hermes Group Central teams (France).

This position is onsite in our New York, NY Corporate Office.

About the Role:

As the Sustainability & Decarbonization Specialist, you will focus on the “Planet” CSR pillar and coordinate key internal sustainability initiatives across the entire US organization, including (but not limited to):
• Compliance & Reporting: conduct and manage the company's US annual carbon emissions inventory (data collection, measurement, analysis, reporting, reduction pathways, …); prepare ESR Group reporting; follow-up on “Hermes Sustainable Development Wheel” action plans; ensure adherence to environmental regulations by preparing detailed reports and tracking sustainability metrics
• Data Analysis: collect, analyze, and manage large datasets related to energy use, emissions, and environmental performance; assist in preparation of sustainability documentation and reports, ensuring transparency and accuracy in data
• Decarbonization Strategies: develop and implement approaches for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in retail locations/distribution center/office buildings, transportation systems and packaging sourcing; identify and source vendors/suppliers
• Sustainability Planning: create actionable plans to promote renewable energy adoption, waste reduction, and resource conservation; support the Exceptional Sale & Upcycling department on product upcycling initiatives and drive action plans to reduce obsolete goods
• Stakeholder Collaboration: act as the primary US point of contact for Hermes Group HQ SD teams; work with internal teams, external consultants, and regulatory bodies to align sustainability initiatives with organizational goals
• Education & Advocacy: design training programs and workshops to foster a culture of sustainability within the organization; contribute to developing and executing sustainability initiatives across corporate offices, retail stores and the distribution center
• Research & Innovation: track ESG trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory landscape changes related to decarbonization and sustainability

About You:
• 3+ years of experience in Sustainability in a retail (preferably in luxury) or corporate setting
• Ability to proficiently write and speak in French
• Graduate degree preferred (sustainability, social impact, or related field)
• Sustainability certifications (GHGP carbon accounting, other)
• Experience establishing sustainability partnerships with suppliers and vendors
• Well-versed in the legal and regulatory frameworks on global and US sustainability requirements
• Ability to work with big data sets
• Proficiency in ESG/sustainability reporting software platforms or data management tools
• Experience with SAP and other accounting platforms preferred
• Deep knowledge of climate frameworks, circular economy principles, ESG due diligence, green building practices, Life Cycle Analysis
• Experience managing projects focused on energy efficiency or net-zero initiatives
• Ability to synthesize research findings into actionable recommendations
• Excellent communication skills for report writing and stakeholder engagement
• Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines, and work autonomously
• Curious and problem-solving mindset

The range for this position is $75,000.00 - $88,746.67 annually. Actual rates are determined based on the job, location, and individual experience.
