Job Description
3R LLC is seeking a full-time Sustainability & Climate Consultant to support clients in GHG inventories, carbon footprint calculations, climate risk assessments, and sustainability program development. The role involves data analysis, reporting, and business development within a client-facing capacity. While primarily remote, hybrid work is optional at the Pittsburgh office. The position offers competitive salary based on experience and may accommodate part-time or contractor arrangements.

This client-facing role will focus on delivering high quality services to our customers, including calculating GHG inventories and product carbon footprints (PCF), setting GHG targets and submitting to SBTi for target validation and identifying carbon reduction strategies, conducting climate risk assessments, drafting CDP submissions, and writing reports using the IFRS S2 framework. This role will be part of the GHG and Climate Team and will be responsible for working across the broader 3R organization to meet client needs. Additionally, this role will also be expected to contribute to growing the GHG and Climate program through potential business development opportunities and creating internal tools and templates to increase efficiency and standardization.
Key Responsibilities
GHG Inventories:
• Gather data to calculate scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas inventories.
• Gather data to calculate scope 3, beyond a spend-based methodology or screening.
• Calculate carbon product footprints (PCF) for clients.
• Analyze environmental trend data (e.g., energy/GHG emissions/water/waste) to identify opportunities for improvement, set reduction targets, and define action plans to achieve goals.
• Develop roadmaps to achieve both reduction targets and net zero commitments.
• Provide appropriate data and analysis to help clients set Science-Based Targets and submit to SBTi.
• Support sustainability program development (internally and with suppliers) to drive reduction in areas of greatest impact.
Climate-related Reporting:
• Conduct climate risk assessments covering transition and physical risks using different climate scenarios (e.g., Shared Socio-economic Pathways, Representative Concentration Pathways, etc.) and quantifying financial impacts of identified risks
• Lead efforts with clients to prepare CDP submissions and regulatory reporting requirements (e.g. CA Climate Disclosure SB 261).
• Create CDP improvement plans post CDP submission to help clients continue to improve their sustainability programs.
• Draft and edit IFRS S2 / TCFD content for client reports and third-party questionnaires.
• Prepare/approve language to respond to rating agency and/or customer questionnaires on behalf of clients.
Internal Business Operations:
• Create dynamic and innovative analytics-driven deliverables, including dashboards, spreadsheets, presentations, and reports.
• Support senior colleagues in business development, including proposal writing, and in the development of work plans, schedules, and budgets for the delivery of client projects.
• Support collaboration with clients through the development of tools and deliverables.
• Generate case studies, articles, presentations, and videos related to 3R’s work as needed for business development.
• Deliver tasks on time, within budget, and assist project managers to ensure that projects perform against targets and deadlines
• Work on several differing projects simultaneously
Qualifications
The ideal applicant must be able to demonstrate excellent qualitative and quantitative skills, combined with an entrepreneurial attitude and a strategic thinking and doing mindset, in addition to the following minimum qualifications:
• BA/BSc in sustainability, engineering, or related field, with a well-rounded understanding of business
• At least 2+ years of related work experience
• Experience working directly with clients.
• Have experience with corporate GHG inventories (scope 1, 2, 3) and product carbon footprints (PCF).
• Have experience with climate risk assessments and utilizing different climate scenarios to assess the impact and likelihood of transition and physical risks.
• Background working with large data sets and proven ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate findings.
• Skilled in data science and data visualization.
• Demonstrated ability to assimilate and analyze operational and environmental data for compliance, indicators, and trends.
• Understand the connection between high-performance buildings, carbon reduction, and the business case of sustainability
• Professional writing skills and the ability to translate scientific data and metrics into compelling “sustainability stories”.
• Must possess work authorization that does not require sponsorship by the employer
• Additional consideration will be given to candidates who:
• Have project management experience.
• Have experience with calculating Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and/or product innovation.
• Have experience in VBA in excel and creating dashboards in PowerBI.
• Hold certificate(s) in GHG accounting, carbon management and/or GHG measurement, reporting and verification
• Have experience with GHG verification or third-party assurance
• Hold a master’s degree in sustainability and/or business, or equivalent certifications
• Must possess a current and valid US work authorization
