About The Opportunity

Delta Farmland and Wildlife Trust is hiring for the position of HEDGEROW TECHNICIAN. This temporary summer position (35 hrs/wk) integrates ecosystem restoration and agricultural stewardship. The work will take place throughout the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver, with a primary base in Delta. This region boasts some of Canada's most productive soils and is recognized as Canada's top Important Bird Area. The summer Hedgerow Technician position is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, organized, self-motivated, hardworking individual interested in stewardship.

Roles And Responsibilities

The DFWT Hedgerow Technician is responsible for:
• Identification and removal of invasive species within DFWT hedgerows on farms across the lower mainland.
• Regularly monitoring planted hedgerows to prevent re-establishment of invasive species.
• Identifying and experimenting with different weed control options
• Assisting with other potential research and/or communication projects as required.

The Successful Candidate Will
• Be motivated and comfortable working alone in the field in varied weather conditions during hot summer months.
• Have a strong work ethic and experience doing manual labour
• Have knowledge or an interest in agroecology or ecological restoration.
• Have an interest in learning about native plants and creating wildlife habitat in agricultural lands.
• Be enrolled in a program related to ecological restoration/agriculture/or resource management.
• Be proficient in using Word, Excel, and Canva.
• Be an independent self-starter.
• Have a Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle daily.

Compensation: $22/hr
