Job Description

Noblis is seeking a Summer 2025 Chemicals and Materials Sustainability Analyst Intern in Reston, VA. The intern will support environmental research by analyzing data on chemicals of concern, conducting literature reviews, and creating data visualizations. Candidates should be rising seniors in relevant fields with a GPA of 3.3 or higher. The position requires strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
About the position

At Noblis, our Resilience and Sustainability team is dedicated to addressing our planet's biggest environmental challenges, including pollution prevention and environmental remediation. We are seeking an intern to join our team in support of the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) and the Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP). In this project, the intern will analyze usage and specification data related to chemicals of concern and their alternatives with a focus on DoD surface engineering applications.

Responsibilities
• Conduct a literature review to identify emerging chemicals of concern and determine their usage in weapons systems and platforms.

• Research and analyze surface engineering specification data by performing in-depth online searches and compiling open source and customer data.
,
• Design and create data visualizations related to the usage of relevant chemicals of concern and their alternatives.
,
• Support development of communication materials (e.g., reports, slide decks) tailored to various audiences to describe and summarize the usage of chemicals of concern relevant to DoD weapons systems and platforms.

Requirements
• GPA of 3.3 or higher
,
• U.S. Citizenship
,
• Undergraduate rising senior pursuing a Chemistry, Materials Science, Environmental Science or Engineering degree with an environmental or sustainability focus.
,
• Excellent communication, written, and organizational skills.
,
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and collaboratively in a team-focused group.
,
• Works well in a geographically diverse team environment.
,
• Preference for candidates located in the DMV area.

Nice-to-haves
• Strong data analysis skills and experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other tools (e.g., R, Python, Tableau, PowerBI).
,
• Knowledge of surface engineering (aviation, ground vehicles), and/or development of sustainable materials alternatives.
,
• Knowledge of DoD (e.g., installations, activities, weapon systems, equipment).
