Job Description

Des Moines Area Community College is seeking a part-time temporary Summer Environmental Science Instructor for the Upward Bound program, running from June 12 to July 3. The role involves developing and delivering curriculum to students in a classroom setting. Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a related field and teaching experience. The position is not remote, as it is based on the Urban Campus in Des Moines, IA.

Job Summary

Instruct Upward Bound participants in a classroom setting teaching Environmental Science during the Upward Bound summer program.

Essential Functions

Develops curriculum designed to create an interactive learning experience. Teaches in accordance with course competencies and syllabi. Utilizes a variety of instructional strategies, techniques and delivery methods designed to meet the individual learning styles of students. Fosters a safe and civil learning environment.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field. Secondary teaching experience. Demonstrated effectiveness working with populations having varied cultures and backgrounds. Mandatory Reporter Certified. Willingness to support Upward Bound and DMACC policies and procedures.

Desired Qualifications

Master’s degree.
