Job Description

The Substitute Van Mail Driver at Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit in Schnecksville, PA is responsible for delivering materials between CLIU #21 locations and partner agencies. Candidates need a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, and must demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills. The role requires physical ability to lift heavy items and operate a vehicle safely. Regular attendance at assigned work hours is required.
Position Definition: The Van Mail Driver is responsible for delivering materials to and from CLIU #21 partner agencies and CLIU #21 locations.

Relationship: The Van Mail Driver shall be directly responsible to the Supervisor of Operations.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
• High school diploma or GED.

Skills/Knowledge:
• Possesses a valid driver's license.
• Possesses a driving record free of moving violations, preferred.
• Demonstrates basic knowledge of computer skills.
• Demonstrates the ability to maintain complete confidentiality.
• Demonstrates the ability to work in a team environment.
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated by patience, understanding, and congeniality.
• Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrates the ability to organize, plan, and manage job responsibilities in order to complete assignments with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrates the ability to complete tasks with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Demonstrates the skills to provide the highest level of customer service, with patience and knowledge of the department's services.
• Attends work regularly at assigned work hours subject to lawful leave rights and responsibilities.

Physical:
• Ability to operate a dolly and cart effectively.
• Ability to lift an item of at least 50 pounds and carry it up a flight of stairs.
• Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, lift, reach, and communicate (vision, hearing, and speech) to effectively carry out functions, duties, and responsibilities.
• Ability to independently ambulate in and around work areas.
• Ability to travel to and from assigned work locations without employer support.
• Ability to exhibit appropriate manual dexterity to effectively carry out functions, duties, and responsibilities.

Authority: The Van Mail Driver will have the authority to perform all functions listed below in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Functions/Duties/Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function/duty/responsibility at acceptable standards. In accordance with both state and/or federal law, reasonable accommodations will be considered upon employee request.

Essential:
• Loads, delivers, and unloads instructional materials and equipment between the CLIU #21 and participating school districts, outlying CLIU #21 affiliated offices, and educational/commercial centers (WLVT, etc.).
• Operates a van with a maximum degree of safety.
• Organizes and packs materials (including interoffice mail, instructional media, equipment, and supplies) by delivery destination based on daily request.
• Works with the mailroom to ensure all interoffice mail is picked up from
CLIU #21 mail bins and delivered to the appropriate site.
• Maintains a folder for substitute van drivers that includes up-to-date van delivery schedule, route itinerary with directions, van codes, and Job Description.
• Picks up and delivers supplies, as needed, and completes appropriate paperwork.
• Maintains current and accurate records of delivery operations, including time sheets and other tracking forms, as needed.
• Delivers supplies to CLIU #21 locations.
• Delivers and picks up supplies, equipment, etc., as directed by the Supervisor of Operations.
• Delivers and picks up other items, as needed, to support the functions of the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21.
• Responsible for communicating any schedule changes, including personal days, vacation days, and sick days, to the Supervisor of Operations so that arrangements can be made for substitute van drivers.
