Job Description

Ursinus College is seeking a Student - Waste Diversion Fellow to promote sustainability within the campus community. Responsibilities include assisting the Director of Sustainability with events like Sustainable Move-In and Move-Out, managing volunteers, and developing educational programming on recycling and waste reduction. This position is for current full-time students at Ursinus, requiring participation in a weekly course and various campus events throughout the academic year.
Description:

Sustainability Fellows are ambassadors of environmentalism and sustainability to the Ursinus community. Fellows are passionate about work that makes a positive impact on the planet and our communities, as well as their own personal growth and professional development. Through this position, Fellows will develop critical thinking and leadership skills that will assist you in whatever you choose to do after your time at Ursinus. Like all Sustainability Fellows, Waste Diversion Fellows are expected to participate in a weekly 1-credit course, taught by the Director of Sustainability, participate in First Year Move-In, Sustainable Move-Out, and Office of Sustainability events and projects throughout the semester. Additionally, Fellows meet with the Director of Sustainability one-on-one at least twice a month to discuss project implementation and provide feedback. Fellows who complete all requirements of their position are eligible to receive a stipend for the fall and spring semester, as well as a green cord for graduation. All Fellowships are two semesters long. The Waste Diversion Fellowship runs from late August through the end of the spring semester in May, or the length of one academic year. (Please note that taxes will be taken out of the $150.00 stipend).

Responsibilities:

Waste Diversion Fellows' primary responsible is to assist the Director of Sustainability in leading our Sustainable Move-Out in the spring, as well as our Sustainable Freshman Move-In during Orientation Week in August. Waste Diversion Fellows spend time managing these processes, communicating with campus administrators to obtain the proper permissions, and recruit and supervise volunteers from around campus. Waste Diversion Fellows often develop programming to educate the campus on proper recycling and waste reduction. Waste and recycling management, public relations, non-profit work, education, and retail production are some of the fields that use skills that Waste Diversion Fellows hone as part of the Fellowships.

Requirements:
• Current full-time student at Ursinus College
• Interest in waste, recycling, and the environment
• Willingness to learn from and collaborate with others
• There is no specific major requirement to be a Waste Diversion Fellow!
• A rising sophomore, junior, or senior
• 2.5 GPA
• Available to volunteer during Orientation Week, the week of graduation, Earth Week in the
• Spring, and Sustainable Move-out in May
• Full-time student who will be enrolled at Ursinus for both the fall and spring semesters
• Familiarity with common computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and Zoom
