Job Description
Sustainable Engineering Services is hiring a Structural Engineer for medium to large-scale transportation projects in the NYC Metro area. Responsibilities include developing structural solutions, performing analyses, ensuring code compliance, and managing project budgets. Candidates should have a relevant degree, experience with specific software, and certifications. The position requires travel to project sites in New York City and is a full-time role.
Sustainable Engineering Services (SES) is seeking a structural engineer to work on medium to large scale transportation and transit projects in the New York City Metro area. The successful candidate will work closely with the project leadership and client liaison be responsible for reviewing and monitoring contractor’s schedule updates and prepare various innovative project performance management dashboards and assist the project leadership with the management of project’s risk, budget and schedule.
Responsibilities Include:
• Work independently to develop structural solutions for New York City transit-related and waterfront structures including preparation of structural design packages, construction drawings, calculations, specifications, and quality control packages.
• Perform finite element analyses of transit-related, waterfront, and above ground structures, piles, and piers. Adhere to project-specific and FTA/ OSHA compliant quality control procedures in preparation of construction drawings and calculation packages.
• Conduct independent code studies and code research and ensure compliance with the same in structural designs.
• Perform advanced seismic analysis of transit related structures, bridges and facilities in accordance with American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association Manual for Railway Engineering; American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials codes and design standards; and International Building Code.
• Coordinate professional training plans and sessions for our team and administer professional training requirements.
• Assist in the development of initial design concepts for bids. Independently perform financial monitoring, reporting and cost control of federally funded civil engineering projects, many with over $500 million budget, in accordance with newly developed methodology by the New York Metropolitan Authority. Travel to project sites within New York City.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Seismic Engineering plus 3 years of work experience as a Structural Engineer.
• Academic coursework:
• Earthquake Engineering;
• Finite Elements Analysis; and,
• Design of Steel Highway Bridges.
• At least 2 years of prior work experience must include: Finite Element Modeling Analysis using Risa 3D, SAP 2000 and STAAD Pro software packages; Using FB Multipier and L-Pile software packages; Using AutoCAD;
• Design and analysis of seismic isolators;
• Seismic design of above ground transit structures and facilities including bridges; and, working on transit projects with over $500 million budget.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) License together with ABET-accredited degree or Professional Engineer (PE) license from the State of New York.
• OSHA30 training certificate.
