Environmental Design International, Inc. is seeking a Storm Water Engineer for their Joliet, IL office. The role involves delivering local stormwater and hydraulic projects and supporting national transportation design efforts. Candidates should have a Civil Engineering degree, 5 years of drainage engineering experience, and an Illinois PE License. The position is hybrid, requiring some in-office work while embracing remote collaboration.
Description
EDI is currently seeking a Storm Water Engineer for our Civil Engineer division in our downtown or Joliet, IL office. This position will be focused on the immediate delivery of Phase I & II local stormwater and hydraulic projects. There will also be opportunities to support national transportation design projects and pursuits.
The ideal candidate is an individual who is accustomed to collaboration among various transportation design disciplines, including roadway, structures, and utilities. Broad experience in problem-solving on challenging projects, from rural two-lane highways to urban interstate highways is highly desired for this position.
EDI is focused on embracing the hybrid work environment and leveraging remote work to support a national collaborative team project approach. As such, this position is hybrid with weekly in-office working requirements out of our Chicago downtown or Joliet office.
Responsibilities Include
• Preparing Storm Water Management Reports and culvert hydraulics & hydrologic studies
• Permitting through various local and state agencies
• Assist with the development of specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports
• Coordinating roadway drainage with various other disciplines
• Coordinate with the design team to achieve quality deliverables within the established schedule and budget
• Establish working relationships and interface with client technical staff and project managers
• Opportunities to play a role in project development with both existing and new clients
Requirements
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering
• Minimum of 5 years of drainage engineering experience
• Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) License
• Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Phase I & II project experience
• Knowledge of roadway drainage systems, highway culverts, storm water management facilities, floodplain modeling, and temporary drainage.
• Experience with storm water design and analysis software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, GEOPAK Drainage, MicroStation V8i, and OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills
• Excellent time management skills, a strong work ethic, and a desire to learn and excel.
• Adopt new software and technology
• Ability to build strong relationships
• Ability to lead and mentor junior staff
