Job Description
Varaha is seeking a State Lead for Regenerative Practices Implementation in Maharashtra, India. The role involves overseeing the delivery of regenerative agriculture and sustainability practices by collaborating with various stakeholders such as NGOs, government bodies, and farmers. Responsibilities include strategic oversight, project management, capacity building, monitoring and evaluation, advocacy, and networking. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of regenerative practices and stakeholder engagement.
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate State Lead to oversee and drive the implementation of regenerative practices in Maharashtra. This individual will be responsible for managing the successful delivery of regenerative agriculture, environmental sustainability, and land management practices by collaborating with various channel partners, including Farmers Producer Companies (FPCs), NGOs, Private Agribusinesses and government bodies. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of regenerative practices and a strong ability to work across diverse stakeholders to achieve impactful, measurable outcomes.
Roles and Responsibilities
Strategic Oversight Leadership
• Lead the implementation of regenerative practices across the state, ensuring alignment with broader sustainability and climate goals.
• Develop and manage strategic partnerships with channel partners, including agricultural organizations, FPCs, NGOs, government agencies, and local communities.
• Oversee the identification of key areas and regions in the state where regenerative practices can be most effectively introduced or expanded.
Project Management
• Supervise and ensure the successful delivery of on-the-ground regenerative projects, including planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting.
• Coordinate activities across multiple stakeholders to ensure seamless project flow and efficient use of resources.
• Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of regenerative practices in the state.
Capacity Building Training
• Organize and facilitate training sessions, workshops, and seminars to raise awareness of regenerative practices and provide technical guidance.
• Build the capacity of channel partners to effectively implement regenerative practices and provide continuous support to ensure the successful adoption of these methods.
• Ensure that all stakeholders understand the benefits of regenerative practices and are equipped to make the transition.
Monitoring Evaluation
• Develop systems for tracking the progress of regenerative practices, including environmental, economic, and social impacts.
• Conduct regular site visits to monitor implementation, assess progress, and troubleshoot any challenges that arise.
• Collect and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of implemented practices and adapt strategies as necessary.
Advocacy Communication
• Serve as the state’s representative for regenerative agriculture and sustainability, promoting the adoption of regenerative practices in public and private sectors.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and other communication materials to update internal and external stakeholders on project status and impact.
• Advocate for policy changes that support the adoption of regenerative practices within the state, including working with government representatives and policymakers.
Collaboration Networking
• Build and maintain strong relationships with channel partners, local organizations, and other stakeholders involved in regenerative practices.
• Work closely with national and regional teams to share knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned.
• Engage in networking opportunities and industry events to promote the state’s progress and expand the influence of regenerative practices.
Qualifications
Educational Background:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Sustainability, or a related field. Certifications or additional training in regenerative agriculture or related fields are a plus. MBA is a must.
Experience
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in agricultural sustainability, regenerative practices, or environmental management, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
• Proven experience in managing projects involving multiple stakeholders, including channel partners, FPCs, NGOs, Private Agribusinesses and government bodies.
• Familiarity with the local agricultural landscape, policy frameworks, environmental challenges and local language in Maharashtra is highly desirable.
Skills
• Strong understanding of regenerative agriculture principles and practices (soil health, water conservation, biodiversity, etc.).
• Excellent leadership, project management, and team-building skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Experience with monitoring, evaluation, and reporting on sustainability and environmental outcomes.
• Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and manage competing priorities effectively.
Other Requirements
• Willingness to travel extensively within the state and occasionally outside the state for work related purposes.
• Passion for environmental sustainability and a strong desire to make a positive impact on the land and communities
