Description

The senior process engineer is a senior-level position that conducts projects to support the safe, reliable, efficient, and cost-effective lithium and other mineral development through the implementation of human performance improvement tools and engineering practices and principles. This position will be supporting operations at the BHE Renewables direct lithium extraction (DLE) plant in Calipatria, CA. The position applies technical expertise to complex projects and develops process enhancements. Collaborates with other engineers in maintaining design efficiencies, engineering and special projects relating to process and operations. Mentors less experienced engineers. Works closely with the team to advance lithium and mineral development.

Responsibilities
• Works with internal and external resources for the timely completion of assigned tasks and projects for mineral development. This includes planning, scheduling, and completion of required work tasks with a Target Zero safety mindset
• Monitors facility efficiencies and recommends to plant manager if a process requires adjustments. Analyzes data to troubleshoot process issues and maximize facility performance. Prepare and present data reports to team, to summarize key information
• Review project design, process, and standard operating and test procedures for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements and applicable codes and specifications. Coordinate activities concerned with process developments and resolving engineering design and test problems. Generate and/or review heat and mass balances, as required. Perform detailed equipment and design calculations and prepare specifications
• Recommend and implement facility and equipment performance testing related to the reliability, operability and efficiency of the specific equipment and its relationship to operations. Support pilot, demonstration, and commercial testing and operations
• Respond to operating needs and provides services to operations as required. Maintain close contact with these groups to evaluate equipment performance, recommend design/specification improvements, trend project performance, technology upgrades and keep up to date with the technologies utilized in the facility. Mentor process engineer(s) and interns, as requested
• Perform additional responsibilities, including special projects, as requested, or assigned

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or mechanical engineering (3-10 years of experience)
• Ability to work a hybrid work schedule
• Must be on site at the lithium recovery plant located in Calipatria, California, three (3) days per week, with five (5) days on site during peak construction and tests, or as requested
• This is an operations focused role
• Candidates must be willing to work in a lithium recovery manufacturing plant
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
• Must possess effective interpersonal skills, leadership abilities and relationship-building skills
• Able to mentor and provide direction to process engineers, as needed
• Must demonstrate effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Must be able to make clear and precise decisions in critical situations
• Must have ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects and issues concurrently
• Must have the ability to use technical skills to focus ideas onto substantial projects
• Must show a willingness to learn, as well as to clearly communicate complex ideas and concepts to those with less technical background
• A valid driver's license is required
