Summary/Primary Role:

Brightcore Energy is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with experience within commercial HVAC sector. This position will primarily focus on supporting the growth in our Geothermal division. The main functions of the role would include creating proposals and supporting sales team on calls to provide educated insight on Geothermal installations and projects. Brightcore’s renewable heating division is a leader in renewable thermal energy systems. This growth is due to efforts to build a team of industry experts in geothermal systems, district energy systems, borehole thermal energy storage, and hybridization of existing and emerging technologies.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing heating/ cooling loads, working knowledge of energy modelling tools, and developing a hybridization path/concept.
  • Work with our geothermal center of excellence group to develop all phases of design documents, operation and maintenance best practices and support related software and hardware development efforts.
  • Lead the mechanical engineering design on geothermal projects across all market sectors in building/infrastructure upgrades.
  • Respond to contractor RFI’s and change orders, perform site visits and document field observation reports and punch-lists with limited supervision to verify that designs are being implemented accurately.
  • Assists in establishing an efficient project schedule for the project team that ensures appropriate use of resources while adhering to deadlines.
  • Knowledge in the design of commercial building HVAC systems and understanding of codes, standards, and design guidelines.
  • Successfully support and manage projects through to completion.
  • Field work as needed.
  • All other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or in a related science-based field.
  • Must have an active NYS Professional Engineering License.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Proficient in all design calculations and software tools (e.g., Revit and AutoCAD) applicable to their discipline.
  • Experience with and knowledge of City, State and nationally recognized building codes and standards (e.g. ASHRAE 90.1, ASHRAE 62.1, ASHRAE 211, NYC Building Code, NYC ECC, LEED, .etc.), a plus.
  • Strong understanding of trade-specific scope of project and the required coordination with other trades and documentation requirements and content for each deliverable phase (e.g., SD, DD, CD and specifications).
  • Experience with heat pump system design and sizing.
  • Ability to travel to job sites as needed.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

Expected Hours of Work:

An Employee must work a minimum of thirty (30) hours each week to maintain full-time status for benefits purposes, however the expectations of the position will require an average of forty (40) hours with overtime required as scheduled. The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining an employee’s base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and internal equity). Brightcore also offers a comprehensive set of benefits to compliment the base salary. The base annual salary range for this position is $145,000-$180,000 and is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus.

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel required to different job sites as needed.

Office/Remote Work Guidelines:

Recognizing the success of remote work, Brightcore operates in a hybrid model. Eligible employees will have the option to work remotely for two (2) days per week at their discretion, with final approval by their direct supervisor. This policy is subject to change at Brightcore's discretion.
