Job Description
Amazon.com is seeking a Sr. Automation Solutions Designer for their Fulfillment Technology & Robotics team in Bellevue, WA. The role involves designing complex robotics and automation systems, conducting trade studies, and collaborating across teams to enhance fulfillment operations. Our products are deployed across the Amazon Fulfillment Network, automating material flow to reduce operational costs, increase throughput, reduce packaging, and enable consistent quality. Our products are integrated into broader solutions that sort, pack, and label items and packages globally. The Mechatronics and Sustainable Packaging organization is seeking a new member to join a dynamic team that provides leadership for concept development, architecture, and design of robotics systems and industrial equipment.
Responsibilities
• Define, expand, and explore the design space for complex, multidisciplinary robotics and automation problems
,
• Identify and analyze the cross-functional tradeoffs between design alternatives, including impact on performance, schedule, cost, risk, complexity, and scale
,
• Break down and frame problems using con-ops, use cases, structural/functional decomposition, and other system representations to clarify needs and align technical teams
,
• Build quantitative models and analyses (Excel, FlexSIM, internal tools) to conduct trade studies, refine requirements, and understand key system drivers across the integrated systems of systems
,
• Develop system concepts, cost estimates, risk assessments, and proposal documents that define the content and capabilities of automation solutions
,
• Generating and rendering conceptual solutions for customer problems which may have no previous solution by using various CAD tools (2D and 3D)
,
• Facilitate concept brainstorming and customer needs gathering exercises with little to no support from leaders
Requirements
• Bachelor's of Science or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, Physics, or another STEM discipline
,
• Experience with eliciting and clarifying business and end user needs, and connecting those needs to system concepts, requirements, and designs
,
• Experience with technical collaborations and creating alignment across diverse groups (e.g. hardware engineering, software engineering, program management)
,
• Experience with CAD, SolidWorks and/or similar tools to show layouts, tradeoffs, and sensitivities across multi-disciplinary systems
,
• Ability to lead projects and partner effectively with product managers, engineering, operations and manufacturing to deliver solutions autonomously
,
• Ability to solve complex technical problems at the architectural level
Nice-to-haves
