Job Description
Buglife is seeking a Species on the Edge Conservation Officer for a fixed-term role until December 2026, located in Peterborough, UK. The position involves project management, community engagement, and conservation efforts for invertebrate species along Scotland's East Coast. Responsibilities include partnership work, managing volunteers, and raising public awareness. Would you like to be part of a species recovery project focusing on some of Scotland’s special invertebrate species along our stunning East Coast? Do you have a passion for lacewings and butterflies and would enjoy sharing this with local communities?
Our conservation team at Buglife take pride in inspiring, influencing and working with others to support nature’s recovery, and to be a voice for the small things that run the world.
We are looking for a conservation officer to deliver our part of the Species on the Edge project. Species on the Edge brings together eight environmental organisations, including NatureScot, Scottish Government’s statutory advisers on nature conservation, to deliver an ambitious, consolidated programme of work across Scotland. You will work with other Species on the Edge staff on the East Coast to deliver multi-taxa activities and engagement work with local communities.
This role will include practical project management and delivery; partnership working; overseeing practical habitat management works; developing and delivering innovative ideas and solutions to engaging local communities with species and their conservation; managing volunteers; public relations; financial management and teamwork. You will be responsible for delivering outreach and public engagement activities that will raise awareness of the importance of species, how to identify and record them, and what actions that individuals and community groups can take to help them.

Buglife’s aim is to halt the extinction of invertebrate species and to achieve sustainable populations of invertebrates.
