Ecogen Energy UK is hiring a Solar Technician in Bristol, responsible for installing solar PV systems on commercial properties and solar farms. The role involves project planning, execution, and completion, ensuring compliance with safety standards. Ideal candidates should have 5+ years of experience in solar or electrical installation and relevant qualifications. Overview

We’re seeking skilled Technicians in Bristol (with the willingness to work away) to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing solar PV systems on commercial properties and on solar farms, ensuring all work meets safety regulations and industry standards.

The ideal candidate will have experience in solar PV installation or a background in mechanical or electrical installation. We’re looking for individuals with a strong commitment to high-quality workmanship, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver projects efficiently and on time.

Key Responsibilities

You will play a key role in every stage of the installation process, from initial planning to project completion, including:

Project Planning
• Collaborate with team members to plan and coordinate the installation process
• Preparing Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and other H&S documentation (e.g. implementing Permit to Work (PTW) systems, conducting COSHH assessments)

Collaborate with a Delivery Team
• Coordinate with a delivery team to ensure efficient workflows and high-quality installations
• Oversee and manage subcontractors and contractors working on-site to ensure high-quality installations and compliance with safety standards.
• Communicate effectively with team members, customers, and partners
• Actively support and uphold our commitment to a respectful workplace
• Coordinate toolbox talks and safety briefings

Project Execution
• Assess locations for solar panel suitability and review layout plans
• Measure and mark out installation areas accurately
• Prepare building surfaces for panel installation
• Mount and install solar panels on roofs and other structures
• Ensure installations meet industry standards and design specifications
• Troubleshoot and resolve installation issues
• Connect solar panels to electrical systems
• Adhere to strict health and safety guidelines
• Maintain accurate records of completed work and materials used
• Documentation of quality control

Project Completion
• Test and commission the system, ensuring optimal performance
• Perform DC testing and fault-finding to verify system functionality
• Ensure proper commissioning and prepare handover documentation

Requirements
• Ideally 5+ years experience in solar installation or a mechanical or electrical installation role
• NVQ Level 3 in a relevant field (e.g. electrical installation, renewable energy, or engineering).
• Health and safety qualifications – SMSTS/SSSTS (desirable, training can be provided) Valid telehandler certification/licence (desirable, training can be provided)

Skills and capabilities
• Experience, reading, writing and amending Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams and technical manuals.
• Experience managing teams
• Excellent time management and organisation skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety

Competitive Salary and Benefits
• Salary: £30-45k full-time 40-hour week (depending on experience)
• Overtime hours or time off in lieu
• Profit share scheme (available after a 4-month probationary period)
