Job Description
Fortescue seeks a Solar Scientist in Evanston, IL, to join their R&D team focused on developing next-generation solar materials and devices. The role involves participating in technology development programs, ensuring timely delivery, and collaborating on commercialization. Candidates should have a PhD in chemistry or material science, with experience in solar technology fabrication and characterization, particularly with perovskites and thin film techniques.

An opportunity exists for a driven and organized professional to join Fortescue’s research & development team to help develop next generation solar materials and devices.
Key Responsibilities
• Participate in research and development programs to develop new technologies in the areas of solar and other green energy applications
• Support the Principal Solar and technology development team to ensure technology programs are delivered on time and within budget
• Collaborate with team members to drive technology commercialization
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED
• PhD in chemistry, material science, or a related field
• Experience with fabricating and characterizing materials used in current and next-generation solar and opto-electronic technologies (perovskite experience preferred)
• Experience with solar device and module fabrication techniques (for example laser scribing for interconnect development, packaging & encapsulation)
• Experience with thin film vacuum deposition techniques (for example sputtering, atomic layer deposition, chemical vapor deposition, thermal evaporation)
• Experience with thin film solution-processing (for example blade coating slot die coating, microgravure)
• Tandem and multi-junction device experience preferred
