Job Description

Lakeland College is seeking a Solar Instructor for its Sustainable Energy Technology Program. The role requires expertise in solar PV technology and hands-on experience in system design and installation. Responsibilities include preparing and teaching online and face-to-face courses. Candidates should preferably have a master electrician or journeyman status and knowledge of relevant codes. The position is part-time, remote for online courses, but requires on-campus presence for lab preparation.

Key Responsibilities
• The ideal candidate would have instructional and/or industrial expertise in the following areas: solar PV technology
• Significant hands-on experience designing, installing and maintaining both on and off-grid solar PV systems, as well as knowledge of the electrical, building and safety codes is essential
• The solar instructor should have good physical skills and safety knowledge for installation techniques
• Experience using helioscope software would be considered an asset
• Instructional responsibilities include online, and face-to-face offering, course preparation and marking

Job Requirements
• A prospective candidate would preferably be a master electrician or a journeyman with an acceptable combination of education and work experience in solar PV technology
• Registration or eligibility for registration with a professional organization such as NABCEP would be an asset
• Knowledge and experience with site assessment, current maintenance practices and environmental considerations as well as Canadian building and electrical codes, as well as knowledge of regulations and safety, is required
• A good knowledge of the integration of heating systems and system controls is also required
• Familiarity with the renewable energy industry in Western Canada is essential
• The ideal candidate should have a strong industry connection to ensure the program maintains relevance to current industry practices

Additional Information

This is five month, Sessional part-time position commencing February 3, 2025 and ending July 4, 2025. Additional preparation hours will be allocated as part of this position. This position is remote for the online courses, with the requirement to come on campus to prepare and teach the week lab at the end of June.
