Job Description
Onward Energy is seeking a full-time Solar Field Technician II for utility-scale solar operations in Price, UT. The role involves maintaining and operating PV power plants, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and repairing solar systems. Position Description
This position reports to the Solar O&M Supervisor. The Solar O&M Tech II will be responsible for assigned aspects of the maintenance and operation of utility‑scale PV power plant. Duties include monitoring PV plant operation through SCADA, commissioning, testing, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying AC and DC solar PV systems, including inverters, PV module arrays, transformers, switch gear, trackers, and metering systems.
Additionally, this position is responsible for safe, high quality and timely performance of maintenance activities in the field. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
Primary Responsibilities
• Ensure the highest level of health and safety practices.
• Ensure a safe work environment by strict adherence to company protocols.
• Pass all assigned training requirements in safety, environmental and other areas as assigned.
• Accountable for ensuring personal safety, maintaining quality standards, and adhering to established schedules.
• Comply with Job Hazard Analysis, Pre-Job Brief, and Lock-Out-Tag-Out procedures.
• Understand and comply with electrical safety, including arc flash standards.
• Ability to create and follow operating, switching, maintenance, safety, and environmental procedures.
• Knowledge of local and national electrical codes.
• Proficient knowledge of electrical schematics and electrical principles.
• Ability to perform testing, switching and troubleshooting of low, medium, and high voltage equipment, including transformers, breakers, relays, contractors, motors, trackers, DC array, and inverters, to name a few.
• Capable of retrieving relay files and submitting to engineering for review.
• Assist in planning and executing on-site projects, installations, commissioning, quality inspections, and performance testing.
• Assist with writing and enforcing work and equipment testing instructions and procedures, including normal and maintenance operating procedures.
• Ensure CMMS work orders are complete in their entirety. Prepare documents necessary for procurement and utilization of materials and vendor services.
• Perform testing using IV Curve Tracers, Power Quality Meters, Insulation Resistance Testers, Multimeters, and other equipment, as needed.
• Keep track of quality, quantity, and stock levels of all materials on the sites.
• Proven computer skills in a Windows environment (Microsoft Office Products) are required.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
• Self-directed and accountable, able to think critically about processes and issues.
• Maintain the plant’s vegetation requirements by use of mechanical and or chemical in accordance with site regulations.
• Communicate cross-functionally across all necessary parts of the organization to achieve resolution to plant issues.
• Maintain work area and site cleaning to company standards.
• Must be available for night, overtime, weekend, and holiday work as required.
• May be required to support job responsibilities as needed outside of scheduled work hours.
• Occasional travel may be required.
• Other duties as assigned.
The Profile to Succeed
• High School Diploma or GED required. College or technical degree preferred. Electrical certifications, state, journeyman, etc. a plus.
• Two (2) years of work experience in operations and/or maintenance in power generation, transmission and/or distribution.
