About the position

The Solar Electrical Engineer Lead position at VHB is a key role within the Energy Evolution Practice, focusing on the design and delivery of solar and battery storage projects. This experienced engineer will collaborate with various practice groups to support renewable energy initiatives, manage client relationships, and lead project development efforts. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a proven track record in project management, particularly in the solar energy sector.

Responsibilities
• Represents VHB at meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish needs and discuss design/permitting issues.

• Responsible for client relationships, visibility, and business development.
,
• Oversee the development of electrical layout, one-line documents, construction documents, and specifications for commercial and utility scale solar PV and battery storage systems.
,
• Develop specifications, collect data, and complete utility interconnection applications and building permit applications.
,
• Develop detailed equipment specifications.
,
• Coordinate activities between clients, utilities, permit agencies, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.
,
• Lead site assessment and analysis via on-site data collection and network tools.
,
• Oversee site specific production analysis of PV arrays using models such as PVsyst and evaluate tree shading impacts on output.
,
• Lead the Integration of energy storage systems into the solar PV system.
,
• Prepare written technical reports and oral presentations documenting findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
,
• Provide expert electrical engineering witness services.
,
• Perform system impact studies.
,
• Provide mentorship and training to early career engineering personnel.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related discipline.
,
• 11-15 years of professional electrical engineering design experience (5 years designing commercial & utility scale solar PV systems).
,
• 15+ years of experience preferred.
,
• Proficiency with Autocad Civil3D, PVsyst, SKM, and Etap software.
,
• Professional Engineering (PE) License in electrical engineering preferred.
,
• Familiarity with the National Electrical Code.
,
• Experience working in the northeastern U.S. is preferred.
