Job Description
The Solar & ESS Field Technician at Continental Energy Solutions is responsible for maintaining and inspecting commercial solar and battery storage projects, ensuring compliance with safety standards. Key duties include troubleshooting electrical components, conducting mechanical and electrical inspections, and performing routine maintenance. About the position
The Solar & ESS Field Technician plays a crucial role in the maintenance, inspection, and verification of ongoing and existing commercial solar and battery storage projects. This position is responsible for the operation and maintenance functions related to commercial solar arrays, ensuring that all activities are conducted in accordance with established standards and procedures. The technician must maintain a high level of safety and professionalism while working throughout Illinois. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting electrical components using digital multi-meters, meggers, amp clamps, and similar equipment. The technician will conduct tests on installed equipment to ensure proper working order, which includes performing daily mechanical and electrical inspections. Additionally, the technician will carry out progress, maintenance, and preventative maintenance inspections, providing thorough reporting on all activities. Routine preventive maintenance on solar panels, battery storage systems, and associated equipment is also a critical part of the role. The technician will be required to perform sUAS (drone) and handheld infrared thermography inspections, with job training provided as needed. Accurate documentation of operation and maintenance activities is essential, including maintenance logs, work orders, and inventory records. The technician will be responsible for maintaining documentation such as work orders, service orders, time logs, and emergency information schedules, ensuring that all records are up to date and accurate.
Responsibilities
• Provide maintenance, inspections, and verification on commercial solar and battery storage projects.
,
• Operate and maintain commercial, industrial, and utility solar power & ESS plants according to established standards.
,
• Troubleshoot electrical components using digital multi-meters, meggers, amp clamps, and similar equipment.
,
• Test installed equipment to ensure proper working order, including daily mechanical and electrical inspections.
,
• Perform progress, maintenance, and preventative maintenance inspections with thorough reporting.
,
• Conduct routine preventive maintenance activities on solar panels, battery storage systems, and associated equipment.
,
• Perform sUAS (drone) and handheld infrared thermography inspections, with training provided as needed.
,
• Maintain accurate documentation of O&M activities, including maintenance logs, work orders, and inventory records.

• Responsible for documentation including work orders, service orders, time logs, and emergency information schedules.
Requirements
• Two (2) years of technical experience (electrical, etc.) and/or technical education.
,
• Minimum 2 years' experience maintaining commercial or utility solar arrays.
,
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
,
• Understanding of solar photovoltaic, energy storage, and microgrid applications.
,
• Understanding of electrical and mechanical functions of all components of solar site and associated equipment.
,
• Ability to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams / schematics, SLD and Electrical Construction Drawings.
,
• Experience with PV and electrical systems including DC systems, AC medium voltage systems, and network communications and monitoring.
,
• Experience with Material Takeoffs for replacement of failed/damaged equipment.
,
• Experience with the operation of various SCADA systems.
,
• Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and standard practices.
,
• NABCEP and OSHA 30 preferred.
,
• Ability to climb/work safely from a portable step ladder and on rooftops.
,
• Ability to move and manipulate up to 45 kg (100 pounds).
,
• Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time with some overnights and on-call availability.
