The City of Calgary is seeking a Senior Stormwater Engineer to design and implement innovative stormwater management solutions. As a Senior Stormwater Engineer, you will shape the landscape of stormwater management, providing innovative designs and solutions to mitigate the adverse effects of stormwater, and demonstrating environmental stewardship for resilient and sustainable communities. You will have the opportunity to shape programs and drive transformative change that harmonizes ecological integrity with urban development. Primary duties include:
• Use advanced modeling software and tools to analyze stormwater runoff and water quality, predicting the performance of green infrastructure elements and optimizing designs for different environmental scenarios.
• Provide expertise on stormwater infrastructure's performance assessment; conduct technical analyses, including hydrological and hydraulic modeling, to inform decision making and design processes.
• Design, implement and maintain various Low Impact Development (LID) and Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) techniques; assess environmental conditions and recommend appropriate LID and GSI solutions.
• Develop hybrid stormwater management solutions to seamlessly integrate green and grey infrastructure components; optimize hybrid designs for maximum efficiency and sustainability.
• Develop and guide city-wide GSI/LID programs. Develop and manage watershed-specific stormwater implementation programs.
• Collaborate and build effective relationships with various watershed partnerships, non-government organizations, and Alberta Low Impact Development Partnership to advance stormwater management.
• Ensure compliance with environmental permit processes and requirements.
• Act as subject matter expert, mentor, and trainer in the area of stormwater technical knowledge and infrastructure; build expertise within the organization by implementing technical programs aligned with stormwater strategy implementation goals.Qualifications
• A degree in Civil, Water Resources, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering, or a related Engineering field encompassing water resources, water quality, waste management or environmental functions.
• At least 10 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work.
• Experience must include civil, water resources, or environmental engineering and water quality regulatory processes.
• Experience using water quality modeling tools is essential: PC SWMM, Storm Water Management Models, hydrotechnical analysis and statistical tools.
• Project management experience is an asset.
• The successful candidate will have strong collaboration, organizational, and analytical skills, with the ability to solve problems and make informed decisions in a complex and dynamic environment.Pre-employment Requirements

Salary: 162,616 per annum (2025 rates)

Days of Work: This position works a 5 day work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
