Job Description

Position Description:

The Senior Specialist will report to the Director, Environmental Sustainability Center of Excellence (CoE) within Global Safety & Environment (GSE). The position is responsible for helping to develop and drive environmental sustainability strategies, programs and initiatives to achieve the company’s external sustainability commitments. The role will provide environmental sustainability support to sites and the business by tracking environmental performance data, developing/implementing sustainability tools, following external sustainability trends, benchmarking external organizations, tracking sustainability-related regulations and risks, and support internal and external communications regarding the company’s environmental sustainability programs and performance.

Primary Responsibilities
• Collaborates with business units to identify and implement environmental sustainability programs. Interfaces with colleagues in GSE, ESG Strategy & Engagement, Energy Management, Facilities Management, Procurement, Research, Packaging, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Marketing and Policy.
• Supports global efforts to achieve corporate environmental sustainability goals by monitoring company performance, identifying and prioritizing actions needed to achieve targets, leading initiatives and communicating progress to the broader organization.
• Supports external reporting and disclosures regarding the company’s environmental sustainability programs and performance via the company’s ESG Progress Report, CDP Reports and other country-specific non-financial reports. Supports internal reporting of progress versus metrics through scorecards.
• Develops understanding of the environmental footprint of the company’s operations, supply chain, products and packaging by developing and implementing sustainability evaluation tools, such as life cycle assessments, carbon foot-print evaluations, economic input/output modeling, etc.
• Benchmarks with peer pharmaceutical companies, other industries and non-governmental organizations to identify external trends and business opportunities/threats with respect to environmental sustainability.
• Represents the company at external sustainability meetings and forums.
• Recognizes and responds to evolving environmental sustainability trends, market conditions, regulatory requirements, etc. Evaluates and integrates the information to proactively identify actions needed to address any potential impacts on company operations, products and businesses.
• Participate and/or Lead cross-functional projects as assigned. Complete all milestones and assigned action items by established deadlines. Adhere to all financial commitments and processes.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Education Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (required)
• Master’s degree in Business or Science (preferred)

Required Experience and Skills
• At least 3-5 years of EHS and/or Sustainability program management and implementation
• In-depth knowledge of global sustainability trends
• Proven ability to drive sustainability programs and culture
• Strong project management skills with a track record of successful cross-functional collaboration
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to simultaneously balance and adjust to multiple changing priorities and make decisions with speed and accuracy

Desired Skills:
• Experience with development or implementation of sustainability data reporting systems
