Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Renewable Energy Project Developer to lead the development of off-site (wheeling) power projects in South Africa. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of South African energy regulations and market trends, as well as experience in stakeholder engagement, including lenders, regulators, and government entities.

About the Role
• Lead the development of off-site (wheeling) power projects in South Africa.
• Formulate a decision gating framework for wheeling projects in South Africa suitable for solar, wind, and BESS asset installation.
• Work with current and new land developers to maintain a pipeline of potential project sites.
• Negotiate the acquisition of preferred sites.
• Work proactively with the business development team to ensure development reflects MW scale, location, and type of power needed by customers.
• Leverage the capabilities of the Project Management team for permitting, interconnection agreements, and EPC / O&M arrangements.
• Ensure all development is future-proof considering possible regulation changes.
• Identify project risks, recommend solutions, and provide feedback to executive management.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Energy Policy, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
• 8–10 years of experience in project development within the renewable energy sector (solar, hybrid, and / or energy storage).
• Proven track record in land acquisition, permitting, and interconnection agreements.
• Strong understanding of South African energy regulations and market trends.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement, including lenders, regulators, and government entities.
• Financial modeling proficiency, with experience supporting investment committee approvals.
• Strong negotiation and project management skills.
