The opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity available for an ongoing Senior Operations Officer to join the EPA in our Operations division in either Albury or Wagga Wagga. In this role you will contribute to the delivery of EPA statutory activities such as licensing and approvals and a diverse range of environment protection activities and approaches including assessing significant environmental planning matters, leading complex investigations, responding to environmental incidents and emergency situations and undertaking day to day tasks to address poor environmental performance of industry, the public sector, landholders and the general community.
About you
Our ideal candidate will have:
• A Bachelor or higher degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
• Knowledge and experience in the implementation of relevant policies, practices and legislative requirements that govern the EPA’s operations.
• Knowledge and experience in one or more environment protection areas, including: air, water, noise, waste, chemicals, hazardous materials, radiation & environmental planning.
• Knowledge and experience in applying current relevant environmental legislation, with demonstrated ability to interpret other environmental legislation.
• Excellent time management skills, with the ability to adapt and respond to changing organisational needs.
• Have experience in liaising with a range of client or stakeholder groups to deliver environmentally sustainable outcomes.
• Have a sound understanding of the workings of government at a state and local level.
• Experience in mentoring staff, managing projects and setting priorities.
An inherent requirement of the role is the ability to work out of either the Albury or Wagga Wagga office.
About the team
Operations is a dedicated team of environmental regulators who work to protect the environment and people from harm through the management of licensed premises and investigation of environmental incidents and complaints. This position sits within the Riverina Far West team within the Western Districts Branch, a team that services the far west region of New South Wales. If you are successful in the role, you will be working in a supportive, diverse, results driven team, who work across the region on significant environmental protection matters. There is an expectation with this role that you travel to and attend to matters located within the Far West and remote regions of NSW.
