About Ecotrust Canada’s Climate Resilience Program

Ecotrust Canada has partnered with rural, remote, and Indigenous communities to create sustainable, place-based economies for 30 years. Our Climate Resilience team focuses on building long–term collaborations with Indigenous communities to support their visioning and implementation of a more climate and biodiversity-friendly forest economy. We co-develop and execute strategies that safeguard natural ecosystems and establish economic transition pathways.

Position Summary

Ecotrust Canada is seeking an experienced professional to co-lead the development of a Climate Resilience Network with Indigenous entities in the Interior BC. We are looking for an experienced person with a strong background in economic development, economic transition, and an appreciation for natural ecosystem protection to support our work with forest-dependent communities.

The successful candidate will bring deep knowledge of BC’s forest and land-use policy and legislation. They will leverage this expertise to support Indigenous partners in asserting jurisdiction, navigating land planning and tenure, and developing policy-aligned proposals for conservation, finance and economic transition.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about working at the intersection of nature protection, Indigenous land planning, economic development, and conservation finance, with a strong understanding of socio-economics among First Nations communities in Interior BC. The successful candidate will be responsible for stewarding cross-nation collaboration, securing resources, and ensuring measurable progress on Indigenous-led conservation and economic objectives.

This role is directly accountable for the successful design, coordination, and delivery of the Interior Climate Resilience Network. The Senior Manager will report to the Director of Climate Resilience, and will be responsible for setting measurable objectives, tracking progress, and adapting strategy as needed to meet a bold climate and biodiversity agenda.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead the visioning, design, and implementation of the Climate Resilience Network in collaboration with participating Indigenous communities
• Monitor and interpret relevant provincial and federal legislation and policy frameworks that affect Indigenous land governance and land management
• Translate complex policy and legislative content into accessible, actionable insights for Indigenous leadership and project teams
• Guide the co-creation of policy recommendations and governance tools that support Indigenous-led land planning and economic transition in forest-dependent communities
• Support the development of Indigenous-led conservation projects in natural ecosystems
• Develop resources, case studies, tools, and policy recommendation materials for Indigenous audiences to support their long-term land planning
• Maintain and deepen trusted relationships with Indigenous leadership, ensuring reciprocal, respectful engagement and governance-by-invitation principles
• Travel within Interior BC as needed for field work and community engagement

Skills and Qualifications

Required
• Deep knowledge of key provincial legislation, regulations, policies and frameworks concerning forests and lands
• 5 to 10+ years of experience in Indigenous relations, policy development, economic transition, or conservation planning—preferably within forested landscapes of Interior BC
• Experience navigating the economic opportunities and barriers for Indigenous communities, particularly in forest-dependent communities
• Strong understanding of Indigenous-led conservation, reconciliation and the realities of Indigenous communities
• Proven experience in policy research, report writing and case study development
• Deep understanding of conservation finance, tenure reforms, economic transition strategies
• Strong project management and organizational skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Self-motivated and results-oriented, with the ability to take initiative and work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
• Understanding of Canada’s colonial history, its ongoing impacts on Indigenous communities, and a commitment to decolonization, reconciliation and justice-seeking endeavours

Preferred
• Experience working in government relations, or government agencies
• Lived experience in rural, remote, or Indigenous communities in interior BC
• Understanding of natural climate solutions
• Experience supporting Indigenous-led conservation projects, such as Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs)
• Familiarity with place-based economic models, conservation finance, and IPCAs
• Prior leadership in securing and managing large public or philanthropic funding portfolios
