Job Description
Black & Veatch is seeking a Senior Environmental Sciences Specialist (NEPA) to lead environmental impact assessments and compliance with NEPA and CEQA. The role involves working with a multidisciplinary team on various infrastructure projects, conducting analyses, developing permit applications, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Candidates should have a relevant degree and experience in environmental consulting. This position allows for independent work as well as collaboration within the team.
About the position
As a Senior Environmental Sciences Specialist at Black & Veatch, you will play a pivotal role in leading the development of environmental impact assessments and review documents in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). This position offers the opportunity to work with a dynamic team within an established global infrastructure consulting and engineering company, where you will provide strategic environmental consulting for a wide range of infrastructure projects aimed at achieving environmental stewardship for our clients. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team that includes ecologists, engineers, scientists, project managers, and attorneys, all working together to identify optimum environmental solutions. With over 40 years of experience in providing environmental consulting services, our team has supported a diverse mix of infrastructure projects, including power generation (both conventional and renewable), oil and gas facilities, water and wastewater treatment facilities, and data centers. Your role will involve not only leading the development of environmental documents but also conducting environmental analyses, developing permit applications, and ensuring compliance with various environmental regulations. In this position, you will operate both independently and collaboratively, providing critical support to clients in environmental compliance planning, permitting, and review services. You will be responsible for interpreting statutes and regulations that affect project siting, design, construction, and operation, ensuring that all deliverables meet high-quality standards. This role is designed for an individual contributor who is dedicated to delivering exceptional results and possesses strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
• Lead the development of environmental impact assessment and review documents in compliance with NEPA, CEQA, and other similar state-specific or international programs.

• Operate both independently and as part of a team providing critical support to clients in environmental compliance planning, environmental permitting, due diligence, and environmental review services.

• Identify and interpret the statutes and regulations affecting the siting, design, construction, and operation of projects.
,
• Independently perform and lead small teams to conduct environmental analyses and develop permit applications, environmental reports, and environmental compliance procedures manuals.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, environmental engineering, or sciences strongly preferred.
,
• Demonstrated experience leading the development of environmental impact assessment and review documents in compliance with NEPA, CEQA, and/or international requirements.
,
• Familiarity with studies and other supporting documentation related to environmental assessments.
,
• Demonstrated success with domestic and international consulting, permitting, licensing, and environmental quality review processes for a wide range of infrastructure projects.

• Experience leading and managing small teams to achieve timely and accurate project goals.
,
• Dedication to high quality deliverables for all clients, internal and external.

• Highly developed critical thinking skills with proven problem-solving capabilities.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to balance multiple projects while working under tight deadlines.
