HDR is currently seeking a Senior Environmental Planner to join our Indianapolis, IN office. In this role, you will plan and direct medium-to large-size planning and environmental compliance projects for various transportation infrastructure projects, both locally and nationally. The ideal candidate can perform complex assignments, prepare, plan and analyze/review technical studies, permit applications, NEPA documents, and similar reports/studies. You will also be responsible for directing and mentoring junior staff in other locations and demonstrating public participation and agency coordination experience. Knowledge of and experience in using ArcPro GIS is a plus. As a Senior Environmental Planner, you will develop proposals and contract fees, manage projects or environmental tasks including scope, budget, and schedule, and guide less experienced staff to task completion. The position will require client and stakeholder meetings and site visits, with some periodic, out of state travel required.

Responsibilities
• Plan and direct medium- to large-size planning and environmental compliance projects
,
• Perform complex assignments, making independent decisions on problems and methods
,
• Prepare, plan and analyze/review technical studies, permit applications, NEPA documents, and similar reports/documents
,
• Direct work of others in completion of required studies, documents and reports
,
• Demonstrate extensive public participation, agency coordination, planning and programming experience
,
• Perform other duties as needed

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or closely related field
,
• A minimum of 10 years technical and/or field experience in complex environmental planning projects
,
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite
,
• Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills
,
• Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving and research abilities
,
• Technical and/or field experience dealing with environmental impact issues, associated permit processes and documentation preparation/review
,
• An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Nice-to-haves
• Master's degree preferred but not required
,
• Experienced in local agency roadway projects, such as for a county or municipality
,
• Pre-qualified by INDOT to prepare Categorical Exclusions
,
• Pre-qualified in at least one INDOT environmental category (besides CE or EIS)
,
• Experienced in preparing permit applications, including Section 404, Section 401, and NPDES
