About the position

Oculus Studios and Armature are seeking a Senior Environment Artist who possesses a superior artistic eye and elevated technical abilities, with a focus on creating highly polished and beautiful worlds specifically designed for Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR). In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Art Director, Art Leads, Technical teams, and Designers to establish a diverse array of art assets, ranging from immersive environments to props and 3D UI elements. Your primary responsibility will be to craft thrilling and immersive experiences for VR/MR by designing environments, props, and related storytelling elements. Additionally, you will work alongside technical teams to ensure optimal performance on target hardware, ensuring that the artistic vision aligns with technical capabilities. As a key team collaborator, you will also take on a mentorship role, guiding other artists and helping to elevate the overall skill level of the art team. You will be instrumental in identifying and implementing improvements in the art pipeline, workflow, and processes, ensuring that the team can produce the best possible product in an efficient and effective manner. Your contributions will be vital in creating engaging and visually stunning experiences that resonate with users in the VR/MR space.

Responsibilities
• Creating immersive VR environments in Unreal Engine 5
,
• Environment props and asset creation using Maya, Painter, and other related art tools
,
• Establishing, owning, and documenting new workflows that may arise
,
• Interfacing with Design and Tech to ensure props and levels meet specifications
,
• Mentoring other artists of various experience levels to enhance the skills of the entire art team

Requirements
• 5+ years of experience with evidence of completing multiple game titles
,
• Proficiency in Unreal Engine, Maya, Substance Painter, and Photoshop
,
• Strong affinity for hard surface and environment layout and prop modeling
,
• Experience in communicating and collaborating with multidisciplinary team members
,
• Ability to analyze and critique art in a productive manner

Nice-to-haves
• Experience working with outsourced asset libraries or other artists' work
,
• Experience tiling materials within Substance Designer
,
• Experience with non-environment props such as 3D UI elements and materials
,
• Experience with static and dynamic lighting within Unreal Engine
,
• Interest in exploring new art techniques and pipelines
,
• Experience working with and without direct reference or concept
,
• Experience launching a VR game title
