ERM is hiring a Senior Consultant, Environmental Permitting in Boston, MA. The role involves managing land use permitting processes, supervising staff, and preparing technical documentation for various projects. Candidates should have 5-10 years of experience in planning and permitting, particularly in the power sector. Key responsibilities include client relationship management, project oversight, and contributing to business development efforts.
ERM is seeking an experienced Senior Consultant, Environmental Permitting to play a key role in our growing Capital Project Delivery team. This is an excellent opportunity for a mid-career professional looking to advance their career with ERM’s experienced consulting teams in land use permitting; wetland characterization, restoration, and design; species management; and erosion and sedimentation control compliance. As a senior leader, you will manage all aspects of land use permitting processes, including but not limited to managing existing conditions field characterization surveys, conducting research to define permitting requirements, coordinating with appropriate agencies during permitting processes, developing permitting plans, coordinating and participating in client and agency meetings, and developing permit application components for a variety of projects. RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage and provide technical expertise on multi-media permitting and compliance documentation in support of ERM clients’ capital development (i.e., renewable energy projects, power generation, and electrical transmission). Lead preparation of local, state, and federal permitting documents with an emphasis on state Departments of Environmental Protection but also including U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, and other various state and local agencies. Supervise junior- and mid-level consulting staff to develop their skill sets in technical planning and permitting. Contribute to preparing permitting deliverables, serving in roles ranging from lead author to quality review. Perform project delivery activities such as report writing, data and literature review, and development of recommendations for clients. Oversee multiple projects within client’s scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables. Prepare technical proposals, including development of technical scopes and cost estimates, and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads. Maintain client relationships to support repeat business. Be knowledgeable about current and projected projects being executed in the larger region, in order to assist with coordination of current staff, and identification of staffing needs. Understand ERM’s service areas and market strategy and participate in recruiting and interviewing efforts to build a strong and cohesive regional team. Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees locally, regionally, and nationwide. REQUIREMENTS: BS/MS in environmental science, biology, or natural resources or related field. 5 to 10 years of planning and permitting or power sector experience, including consulting for private-sector clients. Well-developed teambuilding and influencing skills; unquestioned integrity; and the experience, confidence, and stature to effectively address client and business needs and challenges. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deliverables and deadlines simultaneously. Solid experience building sustaining relationships with major clients. Demonstrated ability to seamlessly work as part of a team. Excellent writing, communication, presentation, strategic thinking, and “people” skills. Recognized technical expertise by and established reputation in the marketplace, including ability to develop a positive reputation with land use staff. For the Senior Consultant, Environmental Permitting position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $73,148 – $82,290 USD. An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee’s fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above. This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are NOT bonus eligible).
