Job Description

The Queensland Government is hiring a Senior Conservation Analyst in Brisbane, QLD. The role involves managing the Aquatic Conservation Assessments program and supporting various biodiversity projects. Candidates should have expertise in assessing aquatic conservation values, GIS software, and strong communication skills. The position requires leadership in project management and a commitment to workplace equity. This opportunity focuses on enhancing ecological legislation and planning.
The Biodiversity Assessment team, based in Dutton Park, Brisbane is seeking a highly motivated conservation analyst with experience and knowledge in the assessment of conservation values with a particular focus on aquatic values. The position is responsible for the development, management and maintenance of the Aquatic Conservation Assessments program as well as assisting the team across a range of projects and tasks including the Biodiversity Planning Assessments, habitat suitability modelling, database management and development, and also fulfilling ad hoc requests for maps, analysis, and spatial statistics. The successful applicant for the Senior Conservation Analyst position requires :-
• Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices governing the assessment of aquatic conservation values and demonstrated high-level research, analysis and problem solving skills.
• High level communication, consultation and negotiation skills including the preparation of technical reports and the provision of professional advice, experience in leading complex projects and effectively working within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Demonstrated practical experience operating GIS software for cartography, spatial analysis, data management and with a strong working experience in contemporary GIS analysis techniques and methodologies.
• The ability to successfully lead, initiate, implement and contribute to change and continuous improvement initiatives within the Biodiversity Assessment team, the Queensland Herbarium and Biodiversity Science, and the Science Division.
• Demonstrated understanding or the ability to acquire an understanding of organisational structure, the functions and business of the departments and departments' divisions, corporate governance framework and performance and development planning.
• Contribution to workplace equity and diversity that enriches our culture of innovation, respect and inclusion.
