Summary
The Senior Analyst, Sustainability & Climate supports the implementation of enterprise-wide sustainability and climate strategies, with a primary focus on the delivery of assurance‑ready Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data in alignment with the GHG Protocol. This role partners closely with internal stakeholders, external service providers, and assurance teams to ensure accurate, auditable, and decision‑useful emissions data across all business units and regions. The role also contributes to regulatory, voluntary, and customer-facing sustainability disclosures and broader operational sustainability initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Scope 1 & 2 Emissions Accounting and Assurance Readiness
• Collect, validate, and interpret complex operational datasets to produce assurance quality Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions inventories in accordance with the GHG Protocol.
• Support development and documentation of emissions calculation methodologies, assumptions, data controls, and audit trails to meet limited and reasonable assurance expectations.
• Coordinate with internal data owners (energy, facilities, operations, finance) to improve data completeness, accuracy, and consistency across regions.
• Maintain strong connections to internal Newell site contacts, in particular at our global manufacturing and distribution sites, to achieve timely data collection in support of an accurate GHG footprint.
• Support third-party service providers and assurance partners to successfully deliver annual emissions inventories and assurance engagements.
Reporting and Disclosure
• Prepare annual sustainability and climate disclosures, including Scope 1 and 2 emissions, for the Corporate Citizenship Report (CCR) and required non‑financial reporting frameworks (e.g., CSRD, California climate disclosure laws, and SEC climate rules).
• Collaborate with Internal Audit to deliver accurate and complete reporting and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Complete voluntary and customer requested disclosures, including CDP, EcoVadis, Walmart Gigaton, THESIS, and similar ESG questionnaires.
• Maintain alignment between regulatory, voluntary, and customer disclosures to ensure consistency and data integrity.
Operational Sustainability & Regulatory Support
• Engage cross functional teams to track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to energy, emissions, water, and waste.
• Research sustainability regulations, standards, and industry trends; translate insights into practical recommendations for internal stakeholders.
• Track, manage, and approve departmental invoices for external vendors within SAP Ariba.
Analysis, Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
• Develop clear documentation, reports, dashboards, and presentations to communicate complex sustainability and emissions topics to technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Brief senior leadership on emissions performance, data quality, regulatory developments, and emerging risks and opportunities.
• Collaborate across sustainability, finance, legal, operations, and external partners to scale sustainability initiatives from concept through execution.
Qualifications & Requirements:
• 2–3 years of relevant professional experience in sustainability, climate, energy management, environmental data analysis, consulting, or a related field OR
• Graduate level degree preferred in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainability, Climate Science, Energy Management, Public Policy or similar with relevant coursework in sustainability, climate, environmental management, engineering, or a related discipline.
• Working knowledge of the GHG Protocol, including Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions accounting, market‑based vs. location‑based methods, and organizational boundaries.
• Experience supporting assurance ready data processes, including internal controls, documentation, and audit support.
• Strong quantitative skills with the ability to analyze energy, fuel, and emissions data across complex operations.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, sustainability data platforms); ability to identify data gaps and implement improvements.
• Experience leveraging AI-enabled tools responsibly to support data analysis, quality assurance, documentation, and reporting workflows, with an understanding of data governance, accuracy, and assurance considerations
• Familiarity with sustainability and climate reporting frameworks, including GRI, SASB, CDP, and TCFD
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear business insights.
• Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively in a cross functional environment
• Passion for sustainability, climate action, and ESG performance improvement.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative, fast-paced team.
• Intellectual curiosity and commitment to continuous learning in a rapidly evolving regulatory and sustainability landscape.
• Must commit to a hybrid working schedule with a minimum of 3 full in-office days at the Atlanta Headquarters.
