Job Description
The Senior Analyst, Credit & Energy Risk at Clearway Energy in Scottsdale, AZ, will support risk management for energy marketing and trading across renewable and conventional assets. Responsibilities include market and credit risk management, compliance with energy risk policies, overseeing trade-related data, and collaborating with Front and Back Office teams. The role involves creating dashboards, reporting exposures, and participating in ETRM implementation.
About the position
The Senior Analyst of Credit and Energy Risk will reside within the middle-office function supporting the risk management of energy marketing and trading activities across Clearway's portfolio of renewable and conventional generation assets. This position performs middle office operations, market risk, and credit risk management as well as compliance with energy risk policies and covenants in commercial agreements. The Senior Analyst will ensure that Clearway maintains a risk-oriented mentality as the platform expands into new technology and dynamic market structures, by understanding current and emerging risks across all North American wholesale energy markets. This role reports to the Senior Manager, Credit & Energy Risk. In this role, you will support the build-out and ongoing operations for the middle office, including daily market and credit risk management activities, establishing effective operational processes and procedures, and reporting to maintain compliance with underlying energy risk policies. You will assist the Front Office functions (energy management, origination, engineering, procurement, and construction) with pre-transaction compliance, negotiation, administration, and maintenance of commodity enabling agreements with counterparties, brokers, futures commission merchants, commodity exchanges, and third-party service providers. You will oversee the completeness and accuracy of trade-related data which serve as inputs to commodity trade loss limits. Additionally, you will create and maintain clear, concise, and illustrative dashboards that present positions and exposures for Clearway, including credit exposures associated with mark-to-market of energy hedges, REC's, HRCO's, and RA; Value at Risk; scenario/sensitivity analysis; and exposure against position limits. Reporting credit exposures, positions, risk assessments, operational risk issues, and performance in a timely and accurate fashion to senior management and members of the Energy Risk Committee will also be part of your responsibilities. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work with Front Office and Back Office staff to achieve productive outcomes for the enterprise, being viewed by peers as a ‘problem solver' rather than a ‘roadblock'. You will review forward market price and volatility curves used by the Front Office and incorporate them into transaction and portfolio valuation. Preparing materials for the Energy Risk Committee, helping maintain current and prior versions of the Energy Risk Management Policy and Enterprise Risk Policy, and assisting with the annual Policy review process will also be part of your duties. Finally, you will participate in Clearway's Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) implementation and integration initiative, ensuring that counterparty and contract information is recorded accurately in Clearway's system of record in a timely manner to meet Dodd-Frank reporting obligations.
