Job Description
The Seasonal Sustainability Researcher position at the State of New York involves supporting sustainability initiatives at the Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation in Albany. About the position
The Seasonal Sustainability Researcher will support the sustainable operations bureau at the Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation (OPRHP) in Albany, New York. This role focuses on developing and implementing sustainability-related programs aimed at enhancing environmental practices within state parks. The researcher will engage with staff and external partners to promote sustainability initiatives and ensure effective program execution.
Responsibilities
• Conduct research to aid the creation and implementation of sustainability programs.

• Collaborate with the Sustainable Operations Manager to develop and implement waste reduction and broader sustainability programs across state parks.

• Create and gather sustainability-related documents, guidance, and materials.

• Coordinate with park managers and regional staff to integrate sustainability practices into daily operations.

• Develop educational programs and materials to promote sustainable practices among park staff and patrons.

• Organize workshops, training sessions, and community events to raise awareness and build capacity in sustainable practices.

• Engage with local communities and stakeholders to foster partnerships and support for sustainability initiatives.

• Assist in monitoring the effectiveness of sustainability programs and initiatives.
,
• Prepare reports and presentations on sustainability metrics and achievements for internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
• Bachelors or Graduate degree in environmental policy, conservation, engineering, sustainability, or similar discipline.

• Knowledge of waste management, circular economy, composting, recycling, communication methods, and visual presentation.
