Job Description

York County is seeking a Seasonal Environmental Educator to lead summer day camps for children aged 5-13, focusing on nature activities like hiking and canoeing. Responsibilities include planning activities, supervising campers, and communicating with staff and parents. The role requires teamwork, flexibility, and a positive attitude. Background checks are mandatory. This position is located in Pennsylvania and is not remote.
Job Summary

Practice your leadership skills while creatively inspiring young people to engage with the natural world around us. The seasonal environmental educator position is responsible for working closely with full time naturalists to plan and lead eight week-long summer day camps for children ages 5-13. Activities include hiking, stream exploration, canoeing, songs, games, nature journaling, creative projects, and more. Responsible for communicating with staff and parents/guardians about camp logistics, camper medical needs, and disciplinary concerns.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work as a team to plan and lead activities for each week. All activities relate to the key theme of PA natural history and sciences.
• Prepare activity materials to be ready for each day. Be flexible and prepare for unexpected events such as weather and disciplinary issues.
• Supervise younger volunteers and campers. Report any problems with students, volunteers, presenters, or visitors to supervisor.
• Work effectively with all students including any special needs or allergies as indicated on their registration health form.
• Provide care and first aid to campers and communicate incidents according to procedures. (CPR/First-aid training provided.)
• Be a positive role model for campers and volunteers by showing passion, enthusiasm, and curiosity for exploring and learning about the natural world.
• Assist with public programs and other duties around the nature center.

Essential Requirements

A positive and outgoing attitude, strong teamwork skills, and flexibility are required. This position falls under the Child Protection Services Law and requires applicant to pass background checks and screenings.
