Job Description
Butterfly Pavilion seeks a Seasonal Environmental Educator to provide onsite and outreach education about invertebrates across the Denver Metro area. Responsibilities include facilitating interactive learning, teaching programs at various locations, and engaging with the community. The position is part-time, seasonal, and requires flexibility for weekends and evenings. Compensation is $16/hour, with a commitment to fostering appreciation for invertebrates and their conservation.

Employment Type: Seasonal through 8/8/2025, Part-Time up to 28 hours/week
Schedule: Flexible, must be able to work some weekends and evenings
Hourly Rate: $16.00/hour
Position Summary:
The Seasonal Environmental Educator is responsible for providing world-class onsite and outreach education and experiences to learners of all ages across the Denver Metro area and onsite at Butterfly Pavilion, this includes field trip classes, outreach programs, virtual learning programs, afterschool programs, birthday party host, and provide support to seasonal camp programs. The Educator may also be asked to represent Butterfly Pavilion at events throughout the community.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
• Facilitate play-based learning and provide educational information to guests of all ages
• Be an ambassador at outreach booths in the community
• Safely transport and use live animals to demonstrate science-based concepts to learners
• Teach engaging, interactive science education programs at Butterfly Pavilion, in local schools, youth organizations, senior centers, libraries, other community locations, and via real-time interactive video conference (distance learning) for diverse audiences
• Work alongside all team members to provide high quality education programs
• Communicate with teachers and group leads
• Create meaningful interaction between the content and learners for a deeper and more thoughtful experience and to make connections between class or lesson topic and daily life
• Deliver content by teaching engaging and interactive science education programs at the identified sites
• Exhibit strong behavior management skills in high energy environments
• Lead all functions of birthday party programming including logistics and implementation
• Complete camp training and support camps as needed.
Additional Duties:
• Attend required branch and facility meetings and trainings
• Complete USDA and Animal Handling training
• Crosstrain to work in additional areas as appropriate
• Complete supplemental required training

Position Qualifications and Experience:
• Pursuing or holding a degree in education, environmental sciences, or related field or equivalent job experience
• Basic knowledge and interest in invertebrates, environmental science, conservation, and nature
• Comfortable interacting with school-aged children and learners of all ages
• Previous experience working with groups of school-aged children in informal settings
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Enthusiastic, fun, and patient
• Organized and flexible
Additional Requirements:
• Valid Driver's License
• Personal Vehicle
• At least one year's experience working with individuals of different ages and abilities
• At least one year's experience leading a group of individuals or children
• At least 18-years old
• Spanish speaking preferred
• Able to provide proof of up-to-date vaccinations as required by school districts in the service area

• At Butterfly Pavilion, the employee is occasionally exposed to moderate to loud environmental noise for extended periods of time.
• While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and stand, use their hands and fingers, to handle/feel/grasp. The employee is occasionally required to reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employee should be able to lift, carry any items up to 50 lbs.
