Job Description

The Seasonal Blue Ocean Discovery Center Educator position at Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation in Hampton, NH, involves 20-35 hours of public education work, including maintenance of the Discovery Center and exhibits. Responsibilities include educating guests, animal care, and assisting in beach cleanups. Candidates should have experience with the public, basic biology knowledge, and be available from June to August. This is not a remote job.
Summary:

20- 35 hours per week

This position is mainly a public education position that includes general maintenance of the Blue Ocean Discovery Center building and exhibits. This position is ideal for individuals seeking experience in environmental education or marine biology-related fields.

General Responsibilities:
• Educate guests on Gulf of Maine species, environmental issues, and solutions.
• Facilitate proper animal handling and respectful behavior at the touch tank
• Assist in animal care duties such as tank cleaning or animal feeding.
• Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the Blue Ocean Discovery Center (BODC) exhibits and staff space
• Collect admission’
• Work as a member of the BODC team
• Assist in beach cleanups as needed and pass out supplies to visitors
• Other tasks, as assigned by the Education Coordinator

Qualifications:
• Experience working with the public and/or children
• Must be at least 16 years of age and have reliable transportation
• Must have taken at least basic biology courses; marine biology courses are a plus.
• Familiarity with Gulf of Maine marine species, marine mammals and intertidal organisms
• Excellent oral communication skills
• Ability to follow specific instructions
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Must be enthusiastic, flexible, self-motivated, and with a positive attitude

Schedule Requirements:
• Must be available from the first week in June – August
• The ability to work weekends and some summer holidays is a must

Physical Requirements
• It may be necessary to live and move supplies as heavy as 40 pounds.
• You will be standing and walking for long periods of time (sometimes 3-4 hours), without the opportunity to sit.
