Position Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills and understanding of scientific principles, methods, and concepts, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
• Develop and administer a comprehensive science curriculum aligned with school district goals and objectives.
• Cultivate a safe and collaborative classroom environment conducive to inquiry-based learning, student engagement, and exploration.
• Create dynamic lesson plans and instructional materials that cater to diverse learning styles, encouraging hands-on experimentation and scientific inquiry.
• Teach a variety of scientific concepts across disciplines, including biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, and environmental science, fostering curiosity and analytical skills.
• Design and implement laboratory experiments and investigations to facilitate experiential learning and application of scientific principles.
• Conduct ongoing assessments to evaluate student learning and progress, adapting instructional methods to meet individual student needs and promote mastery.
• Stay informed about current developments in science education, incorporating innovative teaching strategies and technology into instruction.
• Maintain accurate records of student activities, achievement, and attendance in compliance with district procedures and legal requirements.
• Foster effective communication and collaboration with students, parents, and colleagues, encouraging parental involvement in student education.
• Uphold school and district policies regarding student conduct, fostering a positive and respectful learning environment.
• Collaborate with fellow staff members, particularly within the same grade level, participating actively in faculty meetings and committees.
• Select appropriate instructional resources, including textbooks, lab materials, and multimedia resources, and ensure the maintenance of inventory records.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Proficient in current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including inquiry-based learning and hands-on experimentation.
• Comprehensive understanding of various scientific disciplines, including biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, and environmental science.
• Familiarity with data analysis, scientific research methods, and laboratory safety procedures.
• Ability to effectively utilize technology and multimedia resources to enhance instruction and student engagement.
• Strong organizational and communication skills to manage classroom activities and interact effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement.
Qualifications Profile:
• Certification/License: Minnesota State Certification as a Science Education Teacher in grades 6-8.
• Education: Bachelor's from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
• Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
Employment Logistics:
• Staff Hours: 6:45 am to 3:00 pm, Monday-Friday, or until all duties are completed for the day.
• Student Contact Hours: 7:15 am to 2:30 pm, Monday-Thursday, and 7:15 am to 11:30 pm on Friday.
• Professional development sessions are held every Friday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Compensation:
• Success Academy's salary for this position is competitive and based on prior experience. In addition, Success Academy offers a benefits plan that includes medical, dental, life insurance, PTO, Sick time, and other incentives.
