Advertised Job Summary:

The Safety and Health Technician is responsible for providing support to safety and health programs in the workplace. This role requires the individual to identify potential hazards, promote safety awareness, and ensure compliance with safety regulations. The position is entry-level and provides opportunities for growth and advancement.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience:

Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and no prior work experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with asbestos abatement procedures and equipment.
Safety and health auditing and/or enforcement experience.
Valid driver’s license
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of safety regulations and standards such as OSHA, EPA, and NFPA
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify potential hazards.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to learn and develop skills in the safety and health field.
Job Duty:

Assist with the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations: As an entry-level safety technician, you may assist with the development and review of safety policies and procedures across the university. You will work with senior safety professionals and other staff members to ensure that the policies and procedures are current and comply with local, state, and federal regulations. This may include conducting research on industry standards, attending relevant training sessions, and reviewing best practices to ensure that the university maintains a safe environment.

Conduct routine safety inspections of campus facilities: You will be responsible for conducting routine safety inspections of campus facilities to identify potential hazards, such as improper storage of chemicals, inadequate signage, and unsafe equipment. You will use checklists and other tools to document the findings of these inspections, and you may work with departmental heads and facility managers to ensure that corrective actions are taken promptly.
