Sierra Pacific Industries is seeking a Safety & Environmental Coordinator in Phenix City, AL. About the position

As a Safety and Environmental Coordinator at Sierra Pacific Industries, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and environmental compliance of our operations in Phenix City, Alabama. You will work closely with the Plant Manager, Superintendent, and Supervisors to achieve company-wide safety and environmental goals. Your primary focus will be to drive safety excellence, promote crew involvement and accountability, and proactively eliminate hazards within the workplace. You will manage safety programs, accident and injury prevention initiatives, and ensure regulatory compliance with OSHA and EPA standards. In this position, you will implement programs that educate, engage, and motivate crew members regarding safety practices. You will develop and provide leadership for the Safety Committee and conduct safety meetings aimed at raising safety awareness and fostering an incident-free environment. Training crew members on essential safety programs such as lockout/tagout, confined space entry, and emergency evacuations will be a key responsibility, ensuring that all training is properly documented. Additionally, you will build relationships with medical providers and engage injured workers to develop successful treatment plans and return-to-work programs. Investigating accidents and potential accident situations will be part of your duties, requiring complete documentation and root cause analysis to recommend future preventative and corrective measures. You will also maintain required air, water, hazardous materials, and other permits, collecting, analyzing, and submitting data required for regulatory reporting. A thorough understanding of current Federal, State, and Local regulations, as well as company policies, will be essential for success in this role.

Requirements
• 2 years lead or supervisory experience preferred.
,
• Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and Hazardous Materials regulations preferred.
,
• Knowledge of air and water permits is helpful.

• Ability to work independently, analyze problems, and make decisions with minimal management intervention.

• Flexibility in work schedule to effectively interact with multiple crews and shifts, availability to respond to emergencies 24/7.

• Proven commitment to safety and Company policy.
,
• Ability to handle multiple priorities under demanding circumstances.
,
• Understand machinery operations with sufficient knowledge to address both safety and environmental considerations.
,
• Solid working knowledge of Word and Excel, and ability to learn various PC based reporting system applications.
