About the position
The SafeState Environmental Health and Safety Consultant I is responsible for providing independent, routine industrial hygiene consultation services, including onsite visits to businesses and industries across Alabama. This role involves performing consultations in accordance with OSHA guidelines and University of Alabama policies, documenting activities, identifying OSHA hazards, and assisting in developing controls. The consultant will also collaborate with SafeState Environmental Programs for inspections and assessments, requiring regular overnight travel to consultation sites.
Responsibilities
• Provide independent, routine industrial hygiene consultation services.
,
• Conduct onsite visits to businesses and industries in Alabama.
,
• Perform consultations in accordance with OSHA guidelines and University of Alabama policy.
,
• Document activities and identify OSHA hazards.
,
• Assist in developing controls for identified hazards.
,
• Work with SafeState Environmental Programs for inspections and assessments.
,
• Conduct environmental, health, and safety surveys and related field work.
,
• Travel regularly to consultation sites, including out-of-state travel.
Requirements
• High school diploma or GED and six (6) years of occupational safety experience; OR
,
• Associate's degree and four (4) years of occupational safety experience; OR
,
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, safety science, business, management, public health, or physical sciences and two (2) years of occupational safety experience; OR
,
• Master's degree or higher in engineering, safety science, industrial management, public health, or physical sciences and some occupational safety experience.
,
• Must have a valid U.S. driver's license.
,
• Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
Nice-to-haves
• Master's degree.

• Working knowledge of OSHA safety and health regulations, especially related to OSHA 21 (d) Consultation Program.
