Linn County, IA is seeking a Senior Environmental Chemist to lead laboratory functions, perform chemical analyses, and ensure compliance with health regulations. Hourly Wage:
New Hire: $34.80 · 90 days: $36.57 · 1 year: $38.50 · 2 years: $40.57 · 3 years: $42.78
About Senior Environmental Chemist:
Act as the lead Environmental Chemist for laboratory functions. Performs routine technical laboratory examinations and samplings. Work is performed under minimal supervision. Knows the County's Customer-Centered Culture principles, the County's Mission, Strategic Plan and Core Values and demonstrates a commitment to customer satisfaction for all customers on a regular basis.
Essential Functions
• Directs work of Environmental Chemists.
• Coordinates scheduling of laboratory testing procedures to ensure timely and accurate results.
• Maintains quality control records and prepares quality assurance reports concerning work and lab procedures in accordance with all current Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Assurance documents.
• Assures and completes compliance records for Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) certification on clinical analysis for the sexual disease and lead programs, including preparing for audits as required.
• Maintains Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) certification to perform chemical and bacteria analysis for water testing program, including preparing for audits as required.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Sciences, or Microbiology required.
• Five (5) years of professional public health laboratory experience required performing chemical analyses and regulatory compliance evaluations.
Special Requirements:
Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) certification to perform clinical analysis for our sexual disease/lead program. Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) certification to perform chemical and bacteria analysis for our water testing program. Valid State of Iowa Driver's License required. Must pass a County physical examination, which includes a drug test after offer of employment. Regular work attendance required. Must remain awake and aware of surroundings at all times.
