Job Description
Linn County is hiring a Senior Environmental Chemist in Iowa to lead laboratory functions, perform technical examinations, and ensure compliance with quality standards. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related fields and five years of public health laboratory experience. Performs routine technical laboratory examinations and samplings
Work is performed under minimal supervision. Knows the County's Customer-Centered Culture principles, the County's Mission, Strategic Plan and Core Values and demonstrates a commitment to customer satisfaction for all customers on a regular basis. Essential Functions Directs work of Environmental Chemists.
Coordinates scheduling of laboratory testing procedures to ensure timely and accurate results. Maintains quality control records and prepares quality assurance reports concerning work and lab procedures in accordance with all current Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Assurance documents. Assures and completes compliance records for Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) certification on clinical analysis for the sexual disease and lead programs, including preparing for audits as required.
Maintains Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) certification to perform chemical and bacteria analysis for water testing program, including preparing for audits as required. Minimum Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Sciences, or Microbiology required. Five (5) years of professional public health laboratory experience required performing chemical analyses and regulatory compliance evaluations.
Special Requirements: Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) certification to perform clinical analysis for our sexual disease/lead program. Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) certification to perform chemical and bacteria analysis for our water testing program. Valid State of Iowa Driver's License required.
Must pass a County physical examination, which includes a drug test after offer of employment. Regular work attendance required. Must remain awake and aware of surroundings at all times.
