SCADA NETWORK ENGINEER

What You'll Do:
As our SCADA Network Engineer, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the reliable and efficient transmission of data between substation devices, control centers, and external networks. You will work closely with internal engineering teams, clients, and service providers to develop robust network designs that align with cybersecurity best practices, NERC-CIP compliance, and industry standards.
Opportunity exists to develop expertise in substation network infrastructure, VLAN design, firewall configuration, SCADA communication protocols, and regulatory compliance, with a long-term path toward becoming a subject matter expert in networking for renewable energy projects.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design and implement network communications for substations, ensuring secure and efficient data flow. Implement cybersecurity best practices to protect SCADA networks and operational technology (OT) infrastructure.
• Develop and configure LAN, WAN, VLANs, and routing solutions for industrial control systems and manage firewalls, switches, routers, and other networking equipment. Interpret substation design requirements and provide programming and configuration for networking devices.
• Participate in internal and client-facing design discussions to ensure network designs meet project needs and work with electrical, protection, SCADA, and civil engineering teams to integrate network solutions into substations.
• Communicate with internet service providers and electric utility communications teams for connectivity solutions and assist the drawing team in finalizing communication diagrams and network layouts.
• Develop networking standards, best practices, and templates for future substation projects and maintain documentation of network configurations, troubleshooting guides, and security protocols while identify commonalities between projects and establish streamlined design processes.
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Computer, or related field), Associate degree in Information Technology.
• Experience: 3- 5 years of relevant Network Administration experience. Experience with SCADA industry standard protocols (Modbus, DNP3), SCADA systems, industrial control systems, and operational technology. Experience with NERC-CIP regulations is a plus.
• Skills: Proficiency in network design, configuration, and troubleshooting (LAN, WAN, VLANs), hands-on experience with firewalls, switches, routers, and other networking equipment, and knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for SCADA systems and industrial control networks.
